North America:

5. Mario Party 8 (Nintendo)

Japan:
1. Super Mario Galaxy (Nintendo)
2. Wii Sports (Nintendo)
3. Ghost Squad (Sega)
4. Dragon Quest Swords: Kamen no Joou to Kagami no Tou (Square Enix)
5. Takarajima Z: Barbaros no Hihou (Capcom)

UK:
1. Big Brain Academy for Wii (Nintendo)
2. Carnival Funfair Games (2K Games)
3. The Simpsons Game (EA Games)
4. Mario Party 8 (Nintendo)
5. Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (Nintendo)

North America had a couple of big releases this week with popular Guitar Hero series and the controversial Manhunt 2. Despite having a ton of controversy, Manhunt 2 was unable to break into the top 5. However, WiiPlay still holds the number 1 position for Wii games in America, despite Guitar Hero 3 selling out. It is surprising to see Mario party 8 still holding on after all this time.
As for Japan, it isn’t a big surprise to see Super Mario Galaxy take the top place, although early reports told of a lack of interest for the game in the Land of the Rising Sun. Takarajima Z: Barbaros no Hihou (Zack and Wiki here in America) was able to continue holding on. Also Ghost Squad had a decent launch being the first “Wii Zapper” game.

In Europe, Big Brain Academy dominates, however Carnival Games takes a surprising second. The Simpsons game was able to get in third place, despite failing to break the top 5 in America.
Expect some surprising shake-ups in the coming weeks as the demand for games spikes and new releases flood store shelves.
