Two Upcoming RPGs for Wii: Xenoblade and The Last Story

Details are scarce at the moment, but two new RPGs are heading for Wii. The first, Xenoblade, was originally shown as Monado at last year’s E3. The game is being developed by Monolith Software, creators of the Xenosaga series, and Tetsuya Takahashi, acclaimed for his work on the Xenosaga series. That’s all that is officially known at this time; whether this is a new entry in the Xenosaga series is purely speculation, but it is interesting that they both begin with Xeno-. The official Japanese teaser site features an intriguing piece of artwork (giant monster fights are always good) and only a hint that an official site is coming soon. The game is set for release in Japan this Spring.

The second game, The Last Story, is being developed by Hironobu Sakaguchi (creator of a little game called Final Fantasy, you may have heard of it) and his production team Mistwalker. The only other information comes from Satoru Iwata, who said in an investor’s meeting that the story would focus on “universal feelings held by people.” That’s just vague enough to work! Check out the official site for what looks to be the game’s logo and a sampling of the game’s hauntingly beautiful music. Expect more details in March, and a game release of sometime later this year (in Japan, at least).
