It’s that time of year again. Time to buy gifts for the upcoming winter festivities, whether it’s Christmas, Hanukkah, Winter Solstice or Festivus. With so many options available to the cautious buyer, here’s a quick rundown of the Nintendo games out this year, and whom to buy them for.

One of the most stylish stages, watch the sun set as you bash baddies.

Donkey Kong Country Returns
A side-scrolling platformer that revives the fun and challenge of Donkey Kong Country.
Recipient: Retro fans who love playing a level twenty times in order to get that rolling jump just right.

Super Scribblenauts
A puzzle-based game that allows you to create any object or adjective you can imagine.
Recipient: Anyone who knows more words than “wings,” “rope,” and “death.”

No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle
A beam katana-swinging action game featuring stylish visuals, characters, and blood baths.
Recipient: Your friend who is into anime, manga, and decapitations.

Aragorn's Quest field

The Lord of the Rings: Aragorn’s Quest
A mission-based action/adventure game that follows Aragorn’s exploits.
Recipient: Your most hated enemy.

Call of Duty: Black Ops
A frantic FPS during the Cold War with tons of online replay value.
Recipient: Your conservative aunt who wrote an angry letter to her cable provider over the game’s commercial.

Tatsunoko vs. Capcom
A complex fighting game between characters from Capcom and Japanese animation company Tatsunoko Productions.
Recipient: People who don’t mind consistently losing to ridiculously good players online.

Professor Layton and the Unwound Future
An engaging puzzle game based on brain teasers, riddles, and word play.
Recipient: Your parents, to convince them that not all games are murder simulators. Then you can go back to Call of Duty.

Lagiacrus is your primary target, but you'll encounter plenty of other deadly monsters as well.

Monster Hunter Tri
An action/RPG featuring hundreds of items, options, quests, and an extensive online system.
Recipient: Students on Winter break that have 200 hours to burn.

Super Mario Galaxy 2
A continuation of Mario’s gravity-defying adventures in space, featuring hundreds of stars to collect.
Recipient: Everyone you know, whether they own a Wii or not.

A little something for everyone! What other recommendations can you come up with?
