RNG is the Random Number Generator. It's basically what the game does to produce a pokemon.

We talk about it because they've found a way to abuse it and use it to get shinies and things. :U

As was said, RNG stands for Random Number Generator. Basically, it controls most randomized things in video games, such as what IVs a pokemon will have and/or its shininess. People have found a way to utilize this and decode its pattern so they can make it generate a certain result, such as a Shining pokemon. I was playing with it earlier and got a Shiny Charizard :)

It is not hacking or glitching or anything, and will not damage your game. Basically, you find out the pattern, make it generate a few more numbers in that pattern, and then when it reaches the one you want you pounce.

Here's a guide:

Technically it has a bit of hacking since you need an AR to find your SID.

I'm living proof you don't need one. I figured out my SID simply by getting my Shiny Machop's IV's and putting them into this online thing, then doing a bit of math. I refuse to ever own an AR, so anything that requires it is beyond me.

Shiny pokemon were already pointless after we cracked the RNGs method for creating pokemon. Cloners pretty much made shinies useless then. At least now you can get your own shinies in about 10-15 minutes.

Where's the fun in that? Then again, the only other kids in my neighborhood who play Pokemon are 5th graders who don't know about the RNG. All I need is a few hours, and I'll have all of my friends' best Pokemon XD

Except I always try that technique, and it never works for me on any of my shinies.
