I don't know if you've transferred any games from your Wii memory to an
SD memory card. If you have, you're already aware that it can take a
long time. The data access speeds for the SD memory card are so slow
that running a game directly from a card would be full of delays. For
fast data transfer speeds, it's necessary to have the game data reside
in the system memory.

As players continue to download Virtual Console games, the Wii
console's internal memory will fill up. However, it's important to note that
the actual downloaded game and the license to have that downloaded game
on your Wii console reside in two separate areas of your Wii Internal
Memory. The game resides in the Channels section while the license is
kept in your Wii Shop Channel account.

What this means to you is that once you've beaten a Virtual Console
game, feel free to delete it to make room for another game. If at any
point you decide to play it again, access the Wii Shop Channel and
download it again. It is possible to delete and re-download purchased Virtual
Console games as many times as you like for free, even if you were to
re-format the console. This will allow you to free up the space you
need for game saves and new Channels indefinitely.

The only way to delete or lose the license is to delete your Wii Shop
Channel account entirely, which would then delete the licenses of all
the games you've downloaded.

They should read IGN's article. When you can't even download all 10 N64 games at one time, let alone other VC games, channels, Wii game saves, and future Wii Ware titles in addition to them, there's a serious problem.

Eventually it's going to reach a saturation point, y'know?

There's no reason that Nintendo can't update the Wii system software to load VC games into the Wii's system memory from an SD card. There'd be an initial load time at launch, but hell it'd be better than the delay of having to launch the Wii Shop channel and download the game again.

I think the issue here is that Nintendo is a little lazy with most of their VC titles...preferring to just emulate and sell the original code rather than modify them to load dynamically as some of the larger N64 and Neo Geo games are too big for the Wii system RAM.

Thats BS if you get a good SD card (like the kind you use for mega-pixel cameras) they have really fast write speeds.

Of course I suppose most people have 1 or 2 gig SD cards that they got for like $10-$20.
Wii Games: Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, Resident Evil 4, Zelda TP, SSX: Blur, Excite Truck, The Godfather, Mario Kart Wii, and of course, Wii Sports.

DS Games: Advance Wars Duel Strike, Mario Kart DS, Metroid Hunters, New SMB, Jump Super Stars, Custom Robo Arena, Mario 64 DS, Zelda Phantom Hourglass, and Advance Wars Days of Ruin.

PC Games: Call of Duty 4, UT3, Halo 1, F.E.A.R., and The Orange Box.

It's not the card speed that's hobbled, it's the speed of the reader in the Wii. Not to say that the reader in the Wii is slow or anything, it's just not meant for that kind of usage. If they meant for us to play games off of an external storage device, they'd have sold an external hard drive.

So its official, we need an HDD.

PS: SHAME on Nintendo's PR for not publicly releasing this reply. Its being asked (no, demanded) by fans all the time and if there is a legit reason then why it doesn't happen Nintendo tell people! Thank GOD they canned most of their old PR departments.

Why not just make an HDD and get it all over with.

Couldn't they just temporarily copy a game from the SD card to the Wii's system memory after loading it up, then delete it after you're done playing it? I think that'd probably work pretty well...
