Woodstock: NSider2 Chat Thread

9,986 posts in this topic

Welcome to Woodstock (The Town Square); NSider2's Official Chat Thread.

Q: What is the Town Square?

A: The Town Square is a place where you post about anything and everything. Forum veterans and new users alike, however, should give the rules below a quick glance, at the very least.

Q: What happened to the other TS thread?

A: Big threads are bad, especially when they're still commonly used. To keep things organized, clean and efficient, the chat thread will be replaced after it accumulates a lot of posts, usually around 10,000. No post counts will be lowered during the process.

Posting Guidelines - Updated 11/27/08

1.) No flaming.

Under no circumstances are you to directly or indirectly insult another member on any basis (race, religion, sex, etc.) Respect the posting rights and views of others, the same way you want others to respect your views and opinions.

Please don't troll and attempt to start an argument, especially over something virtually pointless. Users will be banned, both for trolling and for responding to the troll.

If you have an issue with another user, PM a moderator to have it resolved, or handle it yourself in a way that won't land you in further trouble. Please don't flame one of the mods for seemingly no reason, as it'll have much more serious results compared to flaming a member. PM the mod you have an issue with, instead of turning it into something that doesn't need to happen, and stay calm about it.

As I've been proven constantly, communication can go a long way.

2.) No spamming.

Don't post just for the sake of posting. Members that spam the Town Square with useless posts will be warned, or depending on the severity of the violation (refer to rule 1 above), may be banned from the chat thread and/or the forums at the discretion of the administration. Most importantly, keep your posts interesting and rich in content. This thread's intention is to give you a place to chat with no particular topic (though you're welcome to join in on an ongoing one or start one yourself) - not to provide a place for you to easily break the rules and not get caught.

Pointless double posting, short responses other than yes/no answers, and pointless comments will be considered spam, and those who post such things will have post counts lowered by an admin, if necessary. This also includes only posting a picture (smilies included) or a video with no description.

Keep in mind that there is a flood control in effect for all users. When you post a message, you will have to wait another eight seconds to submit a new post. However, this control is subject to change at any time.

Other things that will be considered spam are:

- "Hi" posts with nothing else added (an acceptable post would be "Hey, read the new NP issue today. What did you think of *insert magazine aspect/article here*?").

- "I'm bored". Honestly, if you're bored, get off the Internet and go do something else. Whoever PMs Eric this rule gets an award.

- "TS/Chat/Power On is dead." Nobody's forcing you to post here. Go do something more productive.

- More will be added in time.

3.) Don't post pornographic/racial/controversial material.

This site is visited by a wide age-range of users, which poses risks for mature content. Should any member post an image or a link to material on the Internet that can be considered inappropriate, they'll be banned on the spot with no questions asked. Inappropriate material is defined as any material that may be generally offensive, racial/religious/sex comments and jokes. This also includes attempts to get around the swear filter or excessive swearing in general (which is typically used for flaming).

Discussion pertaining to political, religious, and other serious issues is allowed in the TS, as long as you keep things under control and prevent the topics from going too far from being video-game related (beyond sports, movies, music, ect.). If too many problems occur when these discussions happen, they'll be disallowed altogether, or cause the entire chat thread to be locked.

4.) Stay on topic.

This is the most important rule of this thread: Try not to be random, stay on topic as much as possible, and try to contribute to the current conversation more than you would try to start on a different topic.

Mainly in morning hours, posts like "Hey guys, how are you?" are fine, so long as a new conversation is started up as the previous day. If too many hi/bye posts get posted, they'll be deleted. Yes, this thread's purpose is to have fun, but there's a limit on how much fun you can have.

Additional Thread Information

* Town Square IRC chat

In addition to this thread, the Town Square also has an IRC channel (appropriately named #townsquare) that will mainly be used for meetings and any other situation that makes it necessary to use. You're more than welcome to visit it, or when you feel the need to discuss something with a few other TS members via a fairly quick method.

* Consequences

- Spamming, defined as anything else not mentioned in the corresponding section above, but including all one-word responses, surging/flooding (posting the same message repeatedly on purpose), "hey" posts only if posted too often, and posts that appear as quick "rank-up" posts - A minimum of one day, with a max of four, obviously based on the severity. Post counts may also be lowered at a predetermined number by an admin, especially for any and all +1 posts.

- Excessive swearing (includes the use of excessive swearing for flaming), and attempts to get around the censors - Minimum 3 days (max 5) of no posting rights.

- Flaming a member, regardless of any seemingly-good reasons to do so - 3 days. An account suspension may be given if flaming occurs both in this thread and through PMs.

- Flaming a staff member for absolutely no reason - Account suspension of at least three days, based on severity and depending on any past offenses. Next offense, referred to an admin (discussion regarding the mods is allowed, so long as you provide reasons with your complaints).

- Link/pic/video of material considered pornographic - Minimal account suspension of 5 days, depending on any past offenses. Next offense, referred to an admin and/or permanently banned (refer to rule 3 on what can be discussed).

- Discussion of sexual actions of any kind, including but not limited to orgies, intercourse, etc, - Minimum account suspension of three days, depending on past offenses. Next offense, referred to an admin and/or permanently banned (refer to rule 3 on what can be discussed). This rule also includes "role-playing" the sexual actions in this thread as well.

Warn levels may be lowered after at least a month of receiving your previous warning and having followed the rules unless proven otherwise, unless the warn was for pornographic content or flaming a staff member for no reason.

As staff members of NSider2, we reserve the right to remove offensive or rule-breaking content as we see fit and as such, offensive or rule-breaking content is to be deemed so based on our interpretation of such incidences. We are also the only individuals who may create chat threads - all others created by users will be locked on sight.

----

If you have further questions, someone with a purple rank and a mod tag.

Everything listed in the Code of Conduct is still expected to be followed, in addition to the rules listed herein.
