My friend has a little cousin (about 8-9 years old) who loves Animal Crossing Wild World. And he knows that the lost an found at the gate is very helpful for getting different shirts, paper, and other stuff he can keep or sell. So one day at school, this kid walked up to the lost and found and took a watch, a sweatshirt, a dinosaur (elementary school), and a lunch box, stuffed them in his back pack very casually and went home.

Why did he do this? Because Animal Crossing told him that it's okay to take things from the lost and found that arent yours AND you'll get away with it (his parents don't have a clue).

Do you find the lost and found to be an issue? do parent's have to be concerned? I want to know Nsider2's Animal Crossing Community's response on this, because a lot of young kids play this game and learn a lot from it, but could they be teaching themselves that stealing is alright to do?

Discuss.

I would think that they would know better... With all the "Don't steal stuff" everywhere... How did this kid get away with it, anyway? Coming home in a sweatshirt, watch and other stuff the parents didn't buy is kinda suspicious... O_o

But the lost and found taught him that its ok to take things regardless of what the item is. He doesn't know he's stealing.

Heh, wait 'till he plays Grand Theft Auto :P.

Anyways, I think if you're playing a game, you should know that that's what you're doing. Do we really need a "Do not try this at home" memo before we play?

Hmmmm. The lost and found is a place where you can get items that are missing. It is not intended for you to take things that do not belong to you, because the only people who can take things out, are the human players. So that means everything in the Lost & Found would belong to you or your fellow friends/family in the town. So if you take something out, they assume you will give the item to whoever it belongs to. If there is an item in the Lost & Found that doesn't belong to anyone, then you can assume that it was just found and you are free to take it.

An example would be, you put things in front of town hall and Chip puts his stand where all your stuff was causing your things to mysteriously vanish. Then, they would end up in the Lost & Found where you can pick them up as they were yours. You are expected to know what is yours to take and what is not. If you see something in the Lost & Found that you know belongs to someone else in your town, leave it be or take it and mail it to that person. Common sense not to take anything that does not belong to you. :P

I'd honestly blame the parents for not communicating better about right and wrong. AC is merely a game and isn't fully needed to be taken so literally. For example taking other peoples stuff is wrong, but that kid should know that if better communicated and instilled values. I'm sure that kid isn't going in recycle bins looking for furniture and clothes(I hope not)

well yeah i do steal stuff from the lost and found from booker (AC:CF). but that dosen't mean that i would in real life. and what old_king just said. blame the parents for not communcating with him whats wrong or right. so anyways it's a game i mean none of the animals will take it anyways. since i found out about it i just leave it alone but when i still found out that the items are still there for like 3 days , i was like, ok lets see what happens. but then nothing happens. all i know is that it's no ones so i take it. usally do it every 3 or 4 days. but in real life it's not ok to steal.i mean it's only a game

Uh, the L&F is the LAST of my concerns

HAVE YOU SEEN THESE FREAKIN' CEREAL COMMERCIALS? Tony the Tiger is one of the only cereal mascots out there that doesn't get involved with STEALING. These freaking commercials are targeted at the child audience and each one gives the message "if you want cereal, steal it!"
Seriously aside from the aforementioned and a few exceptions I can't remember the last cereal commercial that didn't involve somebody trying to be a thief.
