I’ve won a trip to Gamespot’s studio in San Francisco to compete in the finals of their SSBB tournament. Today were the quarter and semifinals. I managed to win in the first one and in the semi, I won by default because of disconnections. We got disconnected twice during the semifinals. I think it was intentional. It’s really strange for it to occur unless someone had a really bad connection. There was very little lag present in both matches.
I was up by one stock when it disconnected in the second match, and so the Administrator decided to give me the win. I was very fortunate but hey, it’s not my fault that it keeps disconnecting. It was a close match though. One of them was a Marth player, the other used Falco. I used DK throughout the entire tournament.
Now all I need to do is fill out some information before a deadline and I’m good to go. The only problem I’m going to have is that I’m afraid of heights. They’re paying for the airplane flight which is great, but I’m really afraid of getting on one of them. I’ve never flown before, this is going to be my first time. A simple roller coaster ride like Disney’s Space Mountain scared the crap out of me when I got on it once, imagine how I’m going to feel in an airplane. I hope I don’t do anything stupid.

Lance7 - If you saw me online, it’s because I was playing the tournament matches. Sorry man.
Well, wish me luck. Hopefully I can win this and win a 700$ Best Buy gift card.

Is it being held in a private area, or is it going to be fully open at some crazy stadium? You could call out some San Fransisco Nsiders.
I honestly want to brawl you sometime. I think I asked before, but you never responded. Either way, have fun and show 'em what you're made of.
Don't be too afraid of the planes either. I was really afraid of heights too, but managed to overcome it. Just keep thinking about that $700 prize at the end of the journey. The only thing that really made me uncomfortable was when my ears popped on our way up. My mother says to chew gum to get rid of it though, so don't worry.
By the way, airplane food sucks, so try to eat before getting on the plane. I think I starved myself when on my last flight because I refused to eat the food they called 'Chicken Breast'. Next to McDonalds on my 'Most Synthetic Stuff Ever Eaten' list.

About planes... Just try to remember the odds of something bad happening up there are much less than in a car. If all else fails, maybe you could take some sleeping pills and doze off until you land.

Oh yeah, I flown a plane once and also afraid of hights. If I recall last time I been on one it shakes a little from the start, a startling, as for heights...I was in center row so no window

Just take middle/ any seat away from the window.

It's not that scary, the view from outside is quite breathtaking... though I guess for the people afraid of heights, they should take it easy.

Heh, great work dude! Smash the heck outta them!
Still gonna use DK?
About the flight(s), I too have always hated heights, but flying didn't seem to bother me too much. And, my first(and only =P) flight was in a tiny private helicopter, looked like a large model! XD Oddly I was fine, even though we were zooming relativley low over the area. I think I was just too amazed at seeing everything I knew from above, I was also taking pictures... Stupid computer deleted them D=
Anyways, best of luck too ya man, make sure to tell us how it plays out when you get back from it!

Strange... I thought that tourny had already gone down... guess I'm out of the loop!

Congratulations on making it that far! I didn't even get to the local tournament on time to compete! That ended my foray into the tournament rather quickly.
I'm afraid of heights, too. I once had to
crawl back to firm ground when I was at the north rim of the Grand Canyon. It was completely humiliating

. Despite all that, I find flying on airplanes completely fine. It's actually relaxing if you don't hit turbulence, and then it just gets a little bumpy.
Are you maining DK, now? I'd like to play it sometime, though I think the lag would be unbearable.
Good luck in San Fran! Have a great time and win it!

I main DK online because the button lag is hard to get accustomed to with Luigi. I use Luigi at IRL tournaments though, but I’ll switch to DK for character match up purposes.
I think you might be getting this tournament confused with the Gamestop one that took place at the midnight launch. This one began on Monday, and it was an online tournament.
I’m feeling a bit more relaxed now that I hear that you guys don’t feel a thing in an airplane. Hopefully it’ll be a good trip along the way.

I'm confused. If it's an online tournament, why do you need to fly to San Fransisco? I don't even get how Gamestop could host something like this...

Congratulations! Don't worry about the airplane ride. They're not that bad, and I'm terrified of heights. But then again, the last time I was in a plane was when I was... 6? But yeah, Plane rides are cool, looking out the windows occasionally, it doesn't even look like land, it actually looks like colored patches of land from how high up they are. You could also read a book or do a game on the DS and sit on a place as far away from the windows if you want. Good luck with the tourney!

Congrats.

Oh yeah, flying isn't that bad once you get on the plane and get going.
I was scared to death of getting on a plane (because of heights) a couple years ago, but once I got on, it wasn't bad at all.
Now I prefer planes over cars any day. xD
