Smash started out for me when I was 7 when it came out in 1999 as a present for having a sickness from the neighboor's dirty dog. I got a flea infection from him and had bumps and was temporalily paralyzed from the waist down. My Mom had bought me the game and I didn't even ask for it and I played all that night because it was so fun and good. That's how I became a smasher.

In 2002 after getting my Gamecube for Christmas and got Melee and loved Smash even more. I wasn't an experienced/competitive gamer at any game until I was 13. I went experienced/competitive at Smash at 14. I regret not being on the tourney scenes at an early age but had life complications.

Now I get Brawl at 15 but turned 16 recently and go to a lot of tournies with Cyber, I'm determined to make myself known as a really great/l33t Mario user and I intend to achieve that. I've been/am a Mario user in every Smash game by the way.

What's your story? 16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I've playing the smash games since the original one on the 64. I only played SSB64 casually.

When Melee came out a few years later, I played it really often with a few friends of mine and thought I was good because I could beat them. In late 2006, I saw a few videos of Ken and Azen and was blown away. I felt that I had reputation for being good that I needed to preserve, so I quickly learned all of the elementary ATs right before going to college. I established myself as one of the top players there fairly quickly, although there really isn't much of a smash scene there. I went to a couple tournaments in early 2007, both of which I got raped by DSF at. During the summer, I got involved in HRC, and got a total of something like 75k feet. After going back to college, some of my friends had surpassed me, and I started I going to tournaments more often. By early 2008, I had gotten a lot better than them, and by mid-2008, I had pretty firmly established myself as one of the better Melee players in Socal's competitive scene.

In Brawl, I've always been fairly consistent, although it wasn't until a couple months ago when I started doing really well. I'm currently waiting to see if I'll be on the next version of the Socal Brawl Power Rankings.

Very nice. 16x16_smiley-happy.gif I wish I hadn't learded AT's or go experienced so late in Melee, oh well. At least just in time for a head start in Brawl. 16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

When I first saw SSB64, I was like "lol that **** is gay" then I played it at my cousins and liked it. I eventually got it as a gift. When I got my GC, Melee wasn't a priority. I got it for Christmas, but I was upset because I wanted Mario Party 4 (lol). Then somewhere along the way I looked up glitches and easter eggs cuz they were fun. This broadened everything to me. I was now aware of so much more and decided to get better and play competitively. Then I bought Brawl on day 1 and thought it was gay.

Oh, I think all of you who don't like Brawl should pick it back up again when more AT's are out because the Brawl tourney scene is bigger than Melee's.

SSB was the reason that I bought the N64. It was my first console game and I loved it to no end. I would always play epic 99 life matches with my friends and have so much fun beating the **** out of the CPUs on teams.

Then Melee rolled around and I played it for 6 months straight without changing games, and it was the only game that I could enjoy all the time. Eventually I got decent at it and then I came here and learned about some of the techs. I never mastered the techs, but they let me play in a more enjoyable way. Now, when I play Melee I don't try to win or get better, I just try to beat my opponent in the most stylish and elegant way possible.

As for Brawl, I was already familiar with the competitive end of Smash so I was able to get better faster. I guess the dumbing down of Brawl's competitiveness helped since it made it easy to get better. I joined RS (Raging Swordsmen not Ridley's Swarm lol) and that introduced me to a whole range of skill levels that I needed to get better. I started out as an Ike FSmash noob, but now I can actually play decently agaisnt most people here.

I played 64 at the age of 4 with a friend of mine. I got into it, and played casually with some friends until melee. i got it early in it's lifespan, around 2001 I think. I played once again casually for a while, besting all my friends-but 1. He was able to rape me with ease for a while. At this time, I didn't dodge, shield, or use aerials. I was a total scrub. Later in the melee age, around the time I got on Nsider 1 at the age of 11 or 12, I learned the techs in time for brawl. I wasn't a master of them whatsoever, but I could pull them off. On NS2, around september, I lied about an HRC score to Salty. Very bad mistake. At this point, I was still a total scrub, still didn't dodge, shield, or use aerials, and my L canceling and Wavedashing skills were terrible. In around February of 08, at the age of 12, I started getting serious about smash. Starting with brawl, I finally learned to roll, shield, spot dodge, and use aerials. I worked my way up, and am now a part of the Meta's at the age of 13 (Youngest member 16x16_smiley-happy.gif). Just about 3 weeks ago, I met back up with the friend who always raped me in Melee. We played, my Wolf, against various characters of his. I won, by quite a bit actually. 2 stock if I remember correctly. I was happy about it, I had finally passed him, my goal since the beginning of melee. At this point I'm decent at brawl I suppose, easily destroying my friends, and I actually know about smash. So yea, that's my smash story.

I said I didn't use aerials. That meant in matches. I Still to date though I can't really pull of a l cancel consistently. I need to go back and finally learn to. And yes, the bolded are pretty funny/pathetic.

No I jumped. Quite a bit actually, just ignorantly and randomly .I just couldn't get the concept that I could attack in the air in a battle I suppose. If I remember correctly, one reason was because the one match I tried using them quite a bit, I used those that were rather laggy. I got punished quite a bit for it, and gave up.

That doesn't make any sense still. How did you know how to l-cancel and wavedash if you could barely understand jumping and using aerials? And why didn't you use them* in matches?

by them i mean wd and lcancel

That doesn't make any sense still. How did you know how to l-cancel and wavedash if you could barely understand jumping and using aerials? And why didn't you use them in matches?

Like I said, L canceling and wavedashing were almost impossible for me. I didn't use aerials in matches due to fear of being punished. I'm still struggling with WD's and L cancels. And I learned how to from some video on how to play melee competitively lol. It had a couple techs, can't remember the title, it's on youtube though. I practiced them like crazy using Fox and roy with their fairs and bairs (L cancels) (Still can't do it with up/down), and was able to pull them off 1/10 times probably. Wavedashing wasn't too hard, still can't do them consistently or too low to the ground though.

Tl;dr: Basically, I sucked at aerials, and didn't use them in fear of being punished. I practiced AT's alot, thinking they would make me pro suddenly, though they didn't make me improve at all. I could grasp the concept, my mind just works that way, but aerials were a problem due to once again, fear. Jumping wasn't a problem like you seem to think, I just did it in a ignorant way (I could SH, but I would FH towards and opponent instead).

EDIT: Just read the "them" being WD's and l cancels. It's because I couldn't do them consistently.

He's not lying. We both go to school together. Neisan's the youngest member in the Meta's, and well, he still rapes me when he gets the chance. So even if you can't imagine him playing 64, I was about that age too.

Lets see, I got the first one, and played it for fun. Then I played melee, and was pretty good at it for a while. Then, I started to see some REAL players. I was about 12, and at first thought "Eh, I have better things to do with my time". Then, I started actually caring. I wanted to be as good as the pro's I saw fighting. So I learned a bunch of glitches/techniques, trained a lot, and got good. I only went to one tournament, and got 3rd in it (won 30 bucks 16x16_smiley-tongue.gif). Then, I got a little busy, and almost completely forgot about it. Then my memory was jogged when brawl was gonna come out. So I tried really really hard to become great, and I did. When I first played it, I realized that BRAWL WAS TOO SLOW. But in spite of that, I stopped playing melee cuz I wanted to be better at brawl. Though I realized quickly after that Melee was still better, despite the fact that it doesn't have online play (yet!). So yea, now I'm trying to become the best I can be at brawl.

Fun Fact: SSB64 came out on my birthday.

My Cousin got me into Super Smash Bros 64, I didn't know who half the people where, but I loved it, I played it for the longest time and my cousin told me that Melee came out, I played thatuntil I did wiki searches one day, found out Brawl was being made, told my cousin about it (which was somewhat humorous reversing the whole thing), stumbled apon Ns1, and I made two awesome discovers in one day.

There has to be something good you remember that got you both into Smash.

My first experience with a Smash game was when one of my brother's friends brought over his N64 games, one of which was SSB64. Although he destroyed both my brother and I, we loved the game, and he was kind enough to lend the game to us for a while. I believe the only character I ever used then was Mario and Pikachu, as I didn't know who the other fighters were(my brother was the same way).

A year or two went by, and I noticed that a sequel had come out for the Gamecube. My first time playing it was at a GCN kiosk at Best Buy. The first character I ever used in Melee was Bowser, and I played two matches; Bowser vs Kirby at Yoshi's Story, and Bowser vs ICs at Mute City. I still wasn't very good at the game, and couldn't figure out how to recover properly...
At the time, my parents were very strict about what games I could get. They did not want to buy T rated games, even though I was 13. They finally caved sometime in early 2004, when I Melee at Toys R Us. I started by playing only Mario and Pokemon characters, but the game broadened my horizens over time, and I got into all different kinds of game series and characters. Believe it or not, I started out as one of those annoying UpB spamming Link players!

It would only take me a few months to discover the competitive side of Smash, and I eagerly attempted to learn techniques like Wavedashing and L-cancelling. I was fascinated by the masterful play of Ken, Azen, Isai, etc, and they inspired me to get better at the game. I never actually attended any real tournaments, partly because of my age and location at the time(who the hell lives in northern Idaho?), but by the end of 2007 I could perform most of the basic ATs consistently.

Brawl online gave me my first opportunity play real people besides my brother. My mindgames, spacing ability, and all that other non-tech stuff was almost completely non-existant. It was the result of years of playing Melee CPUs. I learned though, and got better over time. Unfortunately, Brawl has already become boring to me. =(

That's my Smash story, I guess. 16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

I played 64 and kicked ass.

Then I bought Melee and kicked ass.

Then I bought brawl and I think it sucks but I still do the ass kicking.

I never got Super Smash Brothers for the N64 because by the time I got my N64, the Gamecube came out 3 months later. Then I traded it in to help pay for my Gamecube. Then I got Melee which led up to Brawl a few years later.

My dad got me and ns64 with smashbros64 when I was 6 and I played it with my sisters and I used kirby a lot and stuff.

Then like 4 years later i gotmy GCC and melee and I played it with my sister alot (she was like the only person I played it with) and i didn't go to any fourms to learn wave dashing or anything else. I used dr mario and falco since my sister sucked against them.

I loved melee so much and I spent A lot of time playing it by myself with CPU players. My friend I.Md me the SSBB 1st trailer movie around early 2006... I watched it... I SPAZED OUT xD Ever since then I wanted to get brawl untill it finally came out 2 years after I found out about it xD

It all started long ago, back when I lived in my old town. I used to go to my brother's friend's house, to go play Melee and Smash 64, with him and his brothers.
I remember all I used to do was pick Kirby, jump a few times and Down-B >_>. Then, I moved away and completly forgot about those games.
Years later, my friend told me he got a game called Super Smash Bros. Melee. I was like "Woah, I used to play that game all the time!" So every time I went over there, I played it with him (and my siblings). I borrowed it a few times every now and then.
Then, while looking up Melee stuff, I discovered a sequel was coming out called Brawl. I thought it looked awesome! A sequel to one of my favorite games! I did some more research and discovered the DOJO!!
That Christmas I bought Melee for myself and siblings, I just couldn't wait for Brawl and keep borrowing Melee all the time.
When I was looking up Brawl stuff, I found NS2.
Then Brawl came out, it's awesome, blah blah blah, you know the rest.

I pulled up to the tourney round 7 or 8 and yelled to cabby, "Yo n00b, smash ya later". Looked at my kingdom, i was finally there to sit on my throne of the prince of idk i cant thing of a rhyme.

In Brawl, I've always been fairly consistent, although it wasn't until a couple months ago when I started doing really well. I'm currently waiting to see if I'll be on the next version of the Socal Brawl Power Rankings.

Back when smash first came out, I played it at a friend's house when I was about 8 or so. Got a 64 eventually and bought smash 64. When I first became a gamer in 2004 and bought my gamecube and soon after bought melee. I didn't start learning ATs in melee until about 2006 when Brawl was announced. I was hyping brawl since day 1 and was excited because I wouldn't be so behind like I was in melee, and possible online would be awesome.

Here I am now, 350 hours into brawl , and while not pro, consider myself above average.

Hmm.

Played Smash Bros. 64 when I was little. I enjoyed it.

Heard about Melee when I was younger. I was hyped. Matter of fact, I bought the game before I bought the GCN system. XD
Played it. Met EV'RY expectation I had, and then some. Awesome game; I consider it the best in the whole series.
Mewtwo for the win.

Heard about "Smash Bros. Revolution" and I went ecstatic.
Saw the news, went to the official site. Nothing but fanboy joygasms.
Brawl comes out. And it is good. But only good.
Better than 64, but not as legendary as Melee. Nowhere near as legendary as Melee.
No Mewtwo? Failure.

That's my story/stories for ya in [a] nutshell(s).

I'm just excited to actually be ranked. If anything, I lack self-confidence.

pretty much i got ssb a little while after my dad got the n64 for my sister (but she didn't really care for it so she gave it to me 16x16_smiley-tongue.gif) so i kept on wnating to add to my collection of n64 games and i got ssb... i actually forget when really... kind of stupid to forget but thats kind of how i go, i forget about alot of things 16x16_smiley-tongue.gif so anyways as usual i picked mario ever since i played super mario 64 i was a fan, i wasn't really good at it at first but probably ok mostly. (until during the melee era did i really start playing good in it)

then when i got my gc i got melee with it also and was the first game i played on gc (i bought a gc game before actually owning 1 XD but mostly i played that gc game when renting the gc). so as usual i remember playing adventure mode with mario, and switching between dr. mario, mario and roy when i got the whole roaster. so then i actually quit melee for a bit and went back to ssb on n64... the really funny thing was at school a few days after i got back into it my cousin brought it to school and was smashing everyone that was there except for me..... i nearly 5 stocked him or well could have. i killed 1 of mario's lives and then i remember finishing him off....

so now with brawl, 3rd time i played with mario at the very start and i did the same thing as i did with melee or well sort of, i played sse for a couple hours and then went and played vs mode. played a few cpu's and switched between mario, olimar and pit. through i dropped olimar a little while after but then remained him before E3 08 and the announcement of Pikmin 3 16x16_smiley-tongue.gif 16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif. and so now i still do play brawl, and pretty much marioblaze same thing here... i have mained mario also through out every ssb game.

through if i may also add i have kept doing something that i did with all smash bros games. i used all current gen controllers or ended up using all current gen controllers for every smash bros. game. N64 controller for ssb, gc controller for melee and i started out using gc controller but a little while after i needed to play using the wiimote and nunchuck but after i finished playing and using it..... i continued using it, and since the switch i had only used the gc controller 2 times for brawl.
