The judges will read and evaluate every Entry to that week's contest, and will provide the administrator, ZORAPRIME, with a list, containing a summary of what they believe are the best entries, and name the rank 1 to 3. From there on, the Fan-Fic ranked ONE will obtain 5 points, the rank TWO will get 3 points, and, lastly, the rank THREE will get 2. The administrator will then add up the points, and, as of that moment, the winners will be known. In case of a tie, an appointed individual will review the two (or more) fics and question and decide on a tie-break. Only the votes submitted before 00:00 AM Thursday will be regarded as legitimate.

- On Thursday, at a not predetermined time, the winners will be posted.

-Semi-annually, we will have genre awards (best fic, best characters, best comedy, best short story, etc.). This will be discussed during May, so hold discussion pertaining to this issues until than.

The Rules:

Rule #1: For your Fan Fic to be considered as an entry into the FotW Contest, it must generally follow all of NSider 2's posting guidelines, written rules and completely follow Fan Fic of the Week Rules.

Rule #2: If you wish for your Fan Fic to be eligible for an award you must PM me a URL of your originally written Fan Fic posted on the Nsider 2 Forums. In the heading of the PM please put Fan Fic of the Week entry.

Rule #3: Once the winning Fan Fics have been chosen feel free to post congratulatory messages in the FotW thread. Do not SPAM up the original thread. When a Nsider posts on a Fan Fic it is to express their view on the Fan Fic or give constructive criticism, not to disrupt that Fan-Fic.

Rule #4: The selection process of winning Fan Fics is not reflected by the amount of posts or page views on a Fan Fic. When a winning Fan Fic is chosen, it is based on the quality of writing and amount of work that has gone into the Fic. If you at any moment feel this is not the case, please PM the Administrator of the FotW thread.

Rule #5: Fanfictions may be completely original, and lack the "fan" part.

Rule #6: If you wish to re-enter your Fan Fic into the FotW Contest, two or more weeks in a row, that is allowed as long as the Fan Fic that you are entering has not won in the last week's contest. If you have first place for the past week, there is a four week waiting period before you may enter again. Also, along with the four week waiting period you must have added at least one new chapter to the Fan Fic you are entering. If you won a lower award, there is a two week waiting period. One week for honorable mention. Any entry not entered accordingly will be negated.

Rule #7: There are a potential of four prizes per contest. Those are first, second, third place, along with honorable mention. If there is only two entries, there will be only first place. Three or four entries means first and second place. Five, six, or seven entries mean first, second, and third place. Eight or more allows for all four awards

Rule #8: Have fun and show off your creative side when writing your Fan Fic. Whether your Fan Fic is serious or a comedy, make sure to express yourself to the fullest. The more that you show your creative side, the better your Fan Fic will be.

Rule #9: There is a limit of one Fan Fiction per week allowed to be entered, per Nsider. If a Fan Fiction is co-owned by two or more Nsiders that Fan Fiction is counted for each one of them as one of their entries for the week.

Rule #10: You may post predictions or opinions on Fan Fictions that you think may or may not win in the Fan Fic of the Week contest. Do not, however, try to sway or the judges or the audience. This rule has been implemented to keep the contest as fair as possible.

Rule #11: Poems are allowed to be entered into the Fan Fic of the Week Contest as long as they are based on a game that has appeared on a Nintendo System and comply to all of the other FotW Rules and posting guidelines.

Rule #12: All Fan Fictions entered into the Fan Fic of the Week Contest, must be written in the English Language. (Please do not use the Webdings font or Wingdings font in your Fan Fictions or they will not be allowed into the contest.) The exception is when you use another language under the assumption the reader will not be able to understand it

Rule #13: If an Nsider enters a Fan Fiction into the Fan Fic of the Week Contest, and the entered Fan Fiction breaks any posting guideline or the Fan Fic of the Week Rules, that Fan Fiction will not be accepted into the Fan Fic of the Week Contest for that week.

Rule #14: If your Fan Fiction wins in the FotW Contest and you choose to use the sig add on provided, please do not edited the add on.

Rule #15: Once again, please do not break any rule or posting guideline, as that may result in a ban from this contest.

Previous Fan Fic of the Week Winners: A second thread, as seen here, will be made to storage the data on previous post of the week winners. If the fic is a direct sequel then I will critisize it all the more, especially if it's a Twilight Princess sequel (I'm growing sick of those). How interesting are the characters? I don't like generic characters nor do I like over-baked characters. The characters must also be realistic and true to human nature for the most part (if they are human). How well-planned is the plot? I will have a very hard time reading a story if the plot is easily discernable, unoriginal, or if it has the "Prison Break Syndrome" (the Prison Break Syndrome is how I identify plots that have so many twists that it ends up becoming over-the-top, or ironically predictable). How faithful is the fic to the world it takes place in? If the story deviates greatly from the familiarity of the series it pertains to, then it should be able to show the readers why. How well-done is the description? If I can picture it as if I'm there, then it's good. If I get lost part-way through, then it needs work. How many grammar/spelling mistakes are there? If it becomes unreadable, then I won't bother reading any farther. How does the presentation of the fic and the fics layout look? If it is appealing to read and if the thread is easily navigable when trying to traverse through it, then it is good."

__________________________________________________
______________________________
_

POKEMON_DUDE3-"In fan fictions, I'm looking for good basic grammar/spelling, good paragraph spacing, and good writing skills. Above all, an interesting and unique plot. Something original that I haven't seen anyone come up with yet, but staying within the NSider2 rules at the same time. And that it follows the basic laws of physics unless mentioned in the fan fiction."

__________________________________________________
______________________________
_

Elite Lord Sigma-"Interest is what a story needs most. If a story lacks that, what reason does one have to read it? Also, use of correct English (unless intentionally done otherwise) is important. It would be a shame if you wrote a great read, but I couldn't read it due to how illegible it was. Other aspects that I take into high consideration are plot and character development, proper tone (in short, write so that you would expect your target audience to understand it easily), and format - I dislike reading giant clumps of text without paragraph breaks at correct times. I don't care if your story is the most cliched work of literature on the face of the planet as long as it fits the above criteria."'

__________________________________________________
______________________________
_

Psychopickle-"You need dedication. If I don't see dedication--a strong, enthusiastic desire to write and do it well, and the sheer willpower to plow through any obsticles--then you might as well quit writing. At least, that's my hyper-extremist view. Prove to me that you want to write, and the rest will take care of itself."

__________________________________________________
______________________________
_

Black Zawisza- "If you expect me to vote for your fanfic, there are a few things I expect to see in your writing.

#1. Conventions

I don't expect them to be perfect, but you will have to show you put some thought into it. I'm tolerant with homonyms, possesion and few other things, but anything else is fair game for my criticism.

#2. Character Development and Interaction

Don't make a narcistic, skeptical, unlikable character and make him remain that way throughout the entire fic. I'm okay with it if a character is much the same as he was at the beginning, but show some variation. If you can do this effectively, you will get big points from me.

Also, make your characters stay in character. Don't make the individual described above try and make a joke if it's not in his nature to do so.

#3 Plot Development

Why did Country A attack Country B when all Country B did was kidnap the daughter of a peasant? Try to make your plot realistic.

#4 Originality

I hate clichés. DESPISE them. Don't you dare write:

Character A: No...I am your father.
Character B: Nooooooooooooo!

If you can make a good clichéd fanfic, however, I won't hold it against you."

__________________________________________________

Joethebrave0

Basically, the two main things that I look for in a fanfic are a good story (obviously), and correct grammar. If it has a good balance of simple and complex sentences I can usually fall into a nice rhythm. I suppose it goes without saying that if a story doesn’t have good grammar, it will fall apart, but I would pride myself on being able to easily spot such mistakes. While I admit that I haven’t been able to iron out all the grammatical mishaps in my own fanfiction, that could easily be solved by one last going-over.

The basics are always an easy thing to look for, i.e., words that are spelled correctly, a coherent plot, ‘colorful’ characters, etc. Er… yeah. I may not be as critical as my friend Black Zawisza, I feel I have just as good, if not better, grasp on the workings of a fanfiction.

__________________________________________________

Shout
Among all the things to look for in a Fan Fiction, the spots I tend to feel strongly about are Originality, Grammar, and Characters. If your fan fiction treads on enough old ground to make me feel as though I'm playing the game your fictions based on before, then I won't consider it unless on rare occasion. Example, if you have some mute hero saving some vulnerable princess after collecting 7 people or items, then I will immediately throw it away, because the idea is dead, and of course if it's dead then you can't revive it unless you're Nintendo, as they're bloody good at it. Next up, Grammar. If you've ever noticed me on the Power On board, you will know that I am a Grammar Nazi. It irritates and gives me a very bad image of you as a writer when you're not spacing after your punctuation marks or capitalizing the first letter of a sentence. I understand spelling errors and forgive for that though. So seriously, figure out the rules of grammar and run your chapters through Microsoft Word and you'll be fine. Finally, nothing angers me more than poorly written characters. Characters which are the protein of the fish in terms of fictions, should be well made. I cannot stand reading fan fictions where the main character is so generic I feel that he or she would get along perfectly with everyone. That's not natural and neither is any character that follows that. Characters must have conflict and disagreements, it's what makes things human/pokemon/whatever species you're using. I should be able to get a feeling about where the character would belong in our world. That, and try to keep differences between characters, two equally identical characters kind of make it hard to keep track of their comments, although I'm not as stringent on this as I've made the mistake myself before. All in all, I'm pretty generous. Keeping off bad grammar and cliches aren't all that hard if you know what you're doing. Otherwise, prepare yourself for an unexpected bill.

NOTE!

We are also looking for someone who is willing to take up the job of being a judge during a tie-break.

The Prizes:

NOTE: I'm open to new, custom made signature add-ons. I need new 1st, 2nd and 3rd place add-ons. Please PM me if you could provide me with one.

FotW Winner:

The Legend Of Midna

Some of you may or may not remember this fanfic from the old Nsider forums. If you do, I've added a few things here and there and will be changing some things, so you may want to re-read the story. If you haven't read it already, you should do so.

SPOILER WARNING: This takes place after the events of Twilight Princess. If you have NOT beaten the game, I suggest you do so before reading this.

The Legend of Midna

Book 1: Call of the Twilight

Prologue

"Why?" Those sapphire eyes, once shining brightly with determination and courage, were dull, filled with sadness as Link stared unseeingly at the platform. The last of the mirror shards settled into the sand as Princess Zelda bit her lip, choosing her words carefully to both explain and provide a modicum of comfort.

"Link, Midna did not mean to hurt you at all; by breaking the Mirror of Twilight, she did what she thought was best for both worlds..." The princess rested one gloved hand on his shoulder. "And also, I think, for you."

The Hero of Twilight remained silent, waiting for her to explain.

"I believe Midna wanted you to be happy. Had the mirror been intact, you would have been torn between both realms, between your friends and Midna." They stood in silence for a while; she had begun to give up hope of Link ever speaking when at last he spoke.

"She should have asked me." His voice was thick and subdued, as if he'd been crying. Bending down, he picked up a small shining object off the floor. "I would have gone with her." As he turned to go, the princess glanced at the object that rested on his palm and gasped.

It was Midna's tear.

---------------

"Link, I..." Sadly Midna shook her head; the words still wouldn't come even though she was now alone by the edge of the Palace of Twilight, watching the last of the portal between the realms disintegrate into nothing. She reached out with one hand, as if trying to grasp the fading trails of light, then let it drop. Twilight wrapped itself around her in a warm, comforting embrace, but already the realm seemed dull to her, the serene grace Midna had once found in it fading away to be replaced by the empty longing in her heart. It was for his own good, and the good of Hyrule, she told herself firmly. Besides, he could never love me... not after the way I treated him. Shaking her head once more, she wrapped her cloak about her and set off toward the palace - only to pause and turn back to face the last of the vanishing portal. "Good-bye... forever..." she whispered. Thoughts of him weighing heavily on her mind, she slowly made her way down the familiar path to her home.

Chapter 1: Twilight

"Great job today, Link!" called Fado, waving his hand enthusiastically as Link guided Epona out of the ranch. Instead of replying with a witty remark, as he'd always done, the farmhand merely raised a hand in farewell. Shaking his head, Fado closed the gates. "What's gotten into him? He's never been so slow before..."

Ignoring the jovial cries of his fellow villagers, Link steadily trudged homeward, unwilling to speak to anyone. A distant half of him expected Midna to pop out of his shadow and lecture him for being so slow. Of course, it would never happen. The fact that she was gone was still too much for him to bear even now, four months after her departure. He refused to accept the fact that he would never again hear her voice or see those amber eyes gaze back at him. Epona nickered softly, tugging at the reins. Startled, Link drew himself out of his thoughts to look for the cause. Ilia stood next to the ladder to his house, studying him closely. He avoided her gaze as he led Epona to a nearby tree, tying the reins around its trunk. It wasn't as if he needed to tie her there; not once had she ever wandered off on her own.

"Link."

He froze as Ilia gently put her hand on his shoulder. "You know you can talk to me. What's troubling you?"

Link shrugged her hand off. "What makes you think something's wrong?" he snapped.

"Oh, Link..." Ilia turned from him to stare off into the sunset. "We've barely even heard you speak since you came back." It was true, too; since Link had returned to Ordon Village, the villagers had begun to notice that the once ever-cheerful farmhand was no more, replaced by a moody and reclusive stranger. Though everyone in the village had attempted to talk to him about it, he refused to answer them. Only Ilia and Rusl, those closest to him, had persisted. "You never acted this way before you left." She turned to face him once more. "I don't know what happened to you on your journey, Link, but surely there's someone out there who does. If you won't talk to me, then..." Ilia sighed helplessly. "At least talk to them." When he failed to even acknowledge her remark, she left, tears quietly streaming down her cheeks.

Surely there's someone out there who does. Despite his stoic appearance, the words had hit home with Link. He'd need some time to think about it, but for the most part Ilia was probably right. She usually was.

--------------------

Early the next morning Link locked his house, climbing quickly down the ladder. As he placed a food sack into Epona's saddlebags, a quiet voice rang out from his left.

"Link, we must talk."

The Hero of Twilight whirled around to find the very person he was off to see. Princess Zelda sat on a rock, her hands folded neatly in her lap. "Princess! Why are you here?" Although relieved that he didn't have to travel, he wondered why she had sought him out.

"To be honest..." She examined a flower by the rock, admiring its large petals. "The oracles have been receiving ill omens as of late. I myself have seen such omens in my dreams. In them, a dark cloud loomed over Hyrule; all seemed lost until two rays, one of shadow and one of light, shot out from the desert, driving back the dark clouds." Zelda caught and held his eyes with her own. "As the Hero of Twilight, I felt you should know. I do not know how or when this will happen, but you must be prepared."

Link had stopped listening, choosing instead to watch the sun slowly rise above the horizon.

They sat in silence for a few minutes until the princess spoke. "You haven't been able to forget Midna, have you? I can see it in your eyes." Her voice was gentle.

"No." A bush to Link's right began to shake. Is someone there? wondered Link, eying the bush suspiciously. As its stopped moving he shook his head, dismissing its movement as the work of a small animal.

"The end of your journey was far more painful than the journey itself could ever have been, and for that I am truly sorry." The princess seemed to hesitate, stiffening as she eyed the bush intently. After a moment, she relaxed. "You loved Midna, didn't you?" Link opened his mouth, intending to tell her that it was none of her concern, when Ilia's words stopped him short.

I don't know what happened to you on your journey, Link, but surely there's someone out there who does. If you won't talk to me, then... at least talk to them.

He cleared his throat, the words slowly forcing themselves out into the open air. "Yes... I did. I still do..." His voice trailed off. She must have sensed his discomfort, for she said, "If you're not comfortable talking to me about this, then perhaps another one of the villagers would -"

But Link was already shaking his head. "What would I tell them? That I fell in love with a woman from the Twilight Realm? That she's a princess there? That by the end of my journey, everything I did was for her?" Link snorted, half laughing. "It's so outlandish that no one would ever believe or understand me."

Zelda sighed. "I suppose you're right."

"Is there any other way to the Twilight Realm?" It was an idle question; it wasn't as if Link had not already heard the answer.

"No, I'm afraid not."
He fiddled with a pebble, unwilling to meet Zelda's pitying gaze. "I wish she had told us what she was going to do," said Link softly.

"If you had known, Link, would you have let her break the mirror?"

"... No. I guess not."

Zelda nodded. "Exactly. I can tell you this, Link - Midna did love you, more than she ever let on."

Link's questioning gaze compelled her to explain.

"When she and I were one, I felt and experienced everything that she did." The princess paused, plucking the flower from the ground. "I know this will be hard for you to hear and even more difficult to do, but Link... you must move on."

Link sighed and threw the pebble away. "It's not that easy. I don't travel anymore; do you know why?" Link looked at her, a sad smile spreading itself across his face. "Because everywhere I go, there are memories of... her."

Folding her hands and flower in her lap, Zelda regarded him thoughtfully. "Perhaps you should visit the mirror chamber and leave flowers there, as a remembrance."

"She's not dead, you know!"

"No, she's not. But it will help." The princess smiled sadly. "I know." She was silent then; Link knew she could only be thinking of her father, buried deep within the royal tomb.

"He was a good king. It wasn't his time to go," he said.

"No, it was not." She turned to him, putting the weight of her gaze on his shoulders. "Promise me you will visit the mirror chamber?"

The Hero of Twilight nodded.

"I'll go today, I guess. If I leave now, I can make it by sunset." He stood to go and looked for the seven guards that traveled with the princess. "Did you come here alone?"

She shook her head. "My escorts are waiting for me by Ordona's spring. But before you go..." Zelda reached behind the rock and lifted a small box, handing it to him. "Take it." Link opened it, staring at its contents. It was the broken Fused Shadow that had served as Midna's helmet. "You have more of a claim to it than I do," she said.

"Thank you... thank you for everything." He fought to keep tears from falling as he bowed to her and mounted Epona. As the mare's footsteps receded into the distance, the princess turned her attention to the bush. Quiet sobbing could be heard from its direction.

"Ilia," called Zelda gently. The weeping girl emerged from behind the shrub; he eyes were red and puffy. "Oh, dear..." The princess dabbed at the spots under Ilia's eyes, drying her tears.

"How did you know I was there?" sniffled Ilia.

"I sensed you there. I thought that perhaps you wanted to know why Link was depressed." Ilia nodded.

"I was waiting there to ambush him and force him to talk about it, but... I... I never thought that he was..." She trailed off as she burst into tears again.

Zelda held her close, murmuring, "It seems Link is not the only one who has been wounded by love." As her tears finally subsided, Ilia remembered belatedly who she had been talking to.

I just made a fool out of myself in front of the princess! she thought sheepishly.

The expression on her face seemed to have given her thoughts away, for Zelda said, "Do not think your actions have made me think less of you, Ilia. Your reaction was perfectly normal; you would need a heart of stone to not be broken by such revelations." The princess got to her feet slowly, Ilia scrambling to help her up. "Take care of him, Ilia." And with that, she was gone.

------------------

Midna sighed and looked out the window, dropping her quill amidst the stack of papers on her desk as she did so. It had been four months - four long months since she had said farewell to Princess Zelda and Link at the Mirror Chamber. Things had been progressing well; the reconstruction of the Twilight Realm had been slow, but it was quickly gaining speed. It wouldn't be long until the land was restored to its former glory. Link would have loved to see this, she thought absently, looking out at the peaceful land below her. Instantly a pang of pain and regret surfaced; just as quickly Midna suppressed it, shoving Link out of her mind. How is this possible? she wondered despairingly. I thought this would go away in time, but it's only gotten worse...

Her thoughts were interrupted by a faint knock at the door.

"Princess?" The attendant's voice was faint, just barely sounding through the thick wooden door. Midna sighed.

"What is it?" she called, irritated. Outside, the attendant winced at the tone of her voice.
She's in that mood again, he thought. I'd better be careful, or she might blow my head off. "Erm, there seems to be a large gathering of black... things... heading for the palace."

The princess blinked. Black things? "What do they look like?" she demanded, flinging open the door.

The attendant cowered under her fiery amber eyes. "Theylooklikethosethingsthatwewereturnedintofo
urmonthsagodon'thurtme." And with that, the attendant rushed down the corridor and out of sight.

Twilight Messengers? Midna brought the remaining three Fused Shadows out of her cloak, feeling their power course through her. There was no doubt in her mind the soldiers would not be able to handle them; they were untrained and underequipped. They would need her help, her power, to fight them off. If only... The image of a hero clad in green, wielding a glowing sacred blade, flashed through her mind. All right, that's it! she thought angrily, and shoved Link out of her mind yet again. I don't have time for this! Fused Shadows floating around her, Midna raced down the corridor towards the throne room and path to the outside of the palace.

------------------

Link left Epona at Lake Hylia; taking the cannon up to the Gerudo desert, he mounted an armored boar stationed at its entrance and set off across the large, flat expanse of land known as the Gerudo mesa. It was an easy ride made difficult as memories of Midna, forged throughout their journey around Hyrule, resurfaced, playing themselves before his eyes. Midna freeing him from his cell. Midna wounded by Zant. Midna exhausted by the use of the Fused Shadows. Midna's departure to the Twilight Realm.

"Enough!" roared Link at the air. The boar snorted, stopping in its tracks.

"Huh? Not you; keep going!" said Link, exasperated. The boar eyed him warily, then began to move forwards once more. As the memories faded away, Link checked his position. The sun was well past its apex; it was probably around two or three in the afternoon. The Arbiter's Grounds - and the mirror chamber deep within - loomed in the distance. Eating a hastily prepared meal of cheese, bread, and water, the Hero of Twilight urged his mount onward.

It was sunset when he reached the sacred mirror chamber, flowers in hand. Laying them by the mirror, he looked around. "Nothing's changed," he said aloud.

"Link, I.... see you later." It seemed as if it had only been seconds ago she had been standing there. As he stood reminiscing, the Fused Shadow burst out of its box, floating to the center of the mirror platform.

"What the?!" Link walked up the stairs and slowly reached out to touch the Fused Shadow. As he did, purple lightning lanced out from it to the mirror shards on the floor. They crackled with energy as the Sages, roused from their slumber, cried out in alarm. Behind Link the intricate carvings of the mirror were traced in the air where the mirror had once been. A beam of light shot out from this phantom mirror onto a large stone tablet, seemingly forming a passageway with no end in sight.

"Impossible!" cried the Sage of Light. "The portal to the Twilight Realm is open! How?!" His words hit Link like a pile of bricks. The portal was open; he could see Midna again! Without pausing to think, the Hero of Twilight snatched the Fused Shadow from its floating position and stepped into the beam of light, wincing as the familiar sensation of dissolving began.

"No!" cried the Sage of Shadow, but it was too late. Within moments he was gone. The mirror shards, their energy spent, became dormant as the portal closed.

--------

Link opened his eyes as the portal behind him vanished. In front of him was not the mirror chamber, but a large and intimidating palace. He smiled.

He was in the Twilight Realm.

The Legend of Zelda: The Darkening of Courage

Might as well repost this, since the last Nsider shut down, but with even better detail than before. ALSO: THIS IS A SOMEWHAT SEQUEL TO TWILIGHT PRINCESS SO EXPECT SOME SPOILERS HERE AND THERE!!!!!!!!

The Legend of Zelda: The Darkening of Courage

Book One in The Trilogy of Darkness

Special Thanks to: Black_Zawisza for his help and advice.

Prologue

Despair crept up into Link's gut; he had just watched Midna shatter the only connection between the World of Light and the World of Shadow: the Mirror of Twilight. Link's sapphire eyes still gazed at the flat-sided black stone where the portal to the Twilight Realm once resided, in the empty hope that it would appear again.

All was silent as Link and Zelda looked from the mirror frame that once held the Mirror of Twilight, back to the former portal.

Still lost in her own shock, Zelda tried to comfort Link. "Link...I'm...I'm so sorry." Zelda said to Link, her once sweet calming voice now waned with loss of words. "Midna was only trying to do what she thought was best for both worlds; by breaking the connection between our world and hers, she probably hoped that the Light Realm would be saved from anymore misdoings from her world."

"What difference does it make?" he said, disgust evident in his voice. "If something were to happen there in the Twilight Realm, it would eventually find its way here if it was powerful enough."

Biting her lip, Zelda chose her words carefully. "That's just it, Link; if something evil were to come from the Twilight Realm, it'd have to be powerful enough to break into the world of light."

Knowing she was right, yet still not accepting the fact that Midna was gone forever, Link asked. "Zelda, is there another way I can go into the Twilight Realm that is hidden from evil?"

"Link, I'm terribly sorry, there isn't."

"Is there a way I can open the portal back up?" Link asked a foolish question.

Zelda chuckled for a second and then returned to a mournful composure. "You'd have to be very powerful, and I mean almost as powerful as the Goddesses, to reopen the portal. Once again Link, I'm sorry...there is no other way to the Twilight Realm."

Link was now raising his voice. "Says you! I know I'll find a way if I try-argh!!" Link was cut off by something.

A searing pain shot through Link's head, like a hot knife had just been stabbed into his skull. In his pain Link threw his green hat, which was worn with age, from his head onto the ground and began gripping his head in an effort to stop the pain...but to no avail. He shut his eyes tightly so all he could see was darkness, all he could hear was his yelling and Zelda's panicking voice yelling at Link asking him what was wrong.

Then everything was silenced; Link's cries of pain disappeared as well as Zelda's voice. All he could see now was pitch-black darkness.

Link's heart thumped in his chest like a hammer. What was this place? Where am I? These questions spun around Link's head like a unstoppable windstorm.

Curious, Link stood up, after releasing his grip on his head. As soon as he stood up a voice called out, one so raspy it was as if it had not spoken in a few centuries. "So, I hear you seek a way into Twilight Realm...? I can help you. Although you'll have to help me in return."

Link spun around in circles, trying to find out where that voice had come from, but all that met his eyes were darkness.

"Do you want my help?" the voice repeated.

In his confusion Link just blurted out a word. "No!"

"Why?" the raspy voice replied.

"Just go, leave me be, now!" Link bellowed.

Then the voice seemed to laugh, this cackling echoed all around the startled Link and no matter where Link turned he couldn't see a thing. So, relying on instinct, Link reached for his trusted Master Sword. However, when Link tried to grasp his sword in the darkness he couldn't seem to find it. He felt for it all along his backside but his hands only felt the fabric of his old green tunic indicating that not only was the Master Sword no longer on his back but the Hylian Shield was gone as well. Where were they?

"You are a fool not to accept my help. Maybe I should just let you taste my power first!" the voice called out rather harshly this time.

Suddenly Link's leg's strength gave out, it was as though some force had eliminated Link's ability to stand. With each passing moment Link began to feel even more weaker, starting from his legs and working its way up.

Link weakly said. "Who are you and what do you want with me?"

The raspy voice replied. "I desire what resides inside you...you truly think that your Triforce of Courage is just a relic of the Goddesses? Think again...Hero of Twilight. There is something else in that Triforce piece; and that something is a part of me! As for who I am...let's just say I'm one who was thought to have been sealed away by the Goddesses, many centuries past. Fortunately, the Goddesses have a bad habit of jumping to conclusions. But I've been regaining my strength and power for a long time and now I have found someone who can help me...whether they know it or not. That person, Link, is you!" Suddenly the weakening feeling dissipated from Link's body, he now stood up from his weakened state.

The air around Link became colder then before, and Link started to feel something was circling him but whenever Link would turn he couldn't see anything, just the same darkness. But he did hear what sounded like wings, wings batting against the air giving off a thud, thud, thuding noise.

"And now I'm free," the voice called out one last time.

Finally Link saw something in front of him. Though it was dark, by squinting he just barely could make out the outline of a creature with huge bat-like wings, hands with long fingers that had lethal-looking nails that curved downward. Link couldn't make out the lower part of the body but he could make out a little bit of the head. It had a demonic shape to it and it had large horns that curled around its head.

Then without any warning the demon-like creature swooped at Link with incredible speed. Knowing that he couldn't do anything to stop the flying threat, all Link did was put his hands out in front of him-in an effort to shield himself from the oncoming attack-and shut his eyes tightly. Though deep down Link knew that this attempt in defense would not prevail.

But when the being made impact with Link there was no momentum that would knock him back, all he could feel was his insides feel like they turned to ice. After a few moments and deciding that it was all right to look Link opened his eyes only to see the same darkness he had seen before.

Turning and darting around, searching for the demonic being, Link could no longer see it, but where did it go? Link then thought. Did it leave? Or was it still looking down at Link?

Link's nervousness he realized was getting the best of him, he paced as he tried to think of the events that had just happened to relief some stress and try to figure this out. Midna shatters the mirror, I get angry, I get sucked into darkness, and then I make a voice angry, a demon-like creature swoops at me, and when it hits me it disappears, Link thought.

All of a sudden Link figured out what happened and said his answer out loud. "The demon... it is now fully inside of me."

The Triforce of Courage began to shine on the back of Link's hand like a shining jewel, which illuminated some of the darkness, but the glow of the Triforce of Courage began to glow brighter and brighter until Link's hand was swallowed in some white light. Then his hand began to burn and Link felt his face become warm; the brightness of the Triforce was so immense that Link had to shut his eyes. Throughout this Link felt as though something was disappearing from inside him, it was hard to explain but it just felt like a weight was being lifted from inside him. Then Link opened his eyes.

The bright sun of the Gerudo Desert shone brightly in Link's eyes, blinding him for a few seconds. When Link's eyes finally adjusted he realized he was lying on his back with Zelda kneeled next to him, she had a very worried expression on her face.

"W...what happened?" Link asked.

"I was about to ask you the same thing." Zelda replied. "First you were looking at the giant stone plate, Zelda indicated the towards the giant stone plate, then you fell over on the ground yelling, then you just stopped breathing. I couldn't find a pulse anywhere on you. I thought...that..." Zelda then stopped talking, evidently close to tears.

After a few moments of silence, Link then spoke to Zelda about what had happened after he blacked out. After Link had finished, Zelda still looked puzzled.

"If this thing knew you missed Midna and got in touch with you so quickly I fear what else is out there that will make tempting offers to you." Zelda said.

"Or," Link said, "maybe the thing I just saw is stalking me, or it's still inside me and the Triforce of Courage is just keeping it at bay."

With that Zelda and Link departed the Arbiter Grounds, not only missing Midna but also fearful about what had just happened. Had this demon left thanks to the Triforce of Courage? Don't count on it.

Screw the Old Nsider - It's All About the NSIDER2

Ok, I'm still hearing people crying about the old Nsider closing and how this forum will never be the same...blah, blah, blah.

First of all, any forum on the face of the web is what the people make it. If the people want to make this as good or god willing better than the old Nsider, then they will despite the people who keep whining about it not being.

Second of all, at least so far we don't have to put up with all the bullcrap rules, regulations and fascism of the old Nsider admins. That video on Nsider2 homepage pretty much sums up the way I feel about it and I actually said it on another thread. While I hate for anybody to lose their job, I find it hard feel sorry for any of the old Nsider admins, including NOA_Andy, because they constantly demonstrated poor decision making skills and then when question basically gave the old "...because that's the way it is" answer, which is total bullcrap. As much as anybody, I understand the need for rules to keep things from getting out of controls; but they got to the point of just making rules to prove that they were in control and that's not keeping it real, that's keeping it wrong.

Third, I've heard that some people just don't want to join this forum because it's not official or some stupid crap and to that I say WTF. I mean who gives half a flying dog turd if it's official or not. Any forum on the web where people want to discuss the same topics as the old Nsider is just as official and given the effort that the admins here have put into making it a replica (an improved replica I might add) of the old Nsider, I don't see how people can sit there and be babies about it..."it's not the real thing, wah, wah, wah..." shut up and go suck on a pacifier. I mean correct me if I'm wrong; but I don't see any disadvantage or harm to joining this forum.

The only thing that I can see as a complaint so far is that the loading time is sometimes a little bit long. And quite frankly, given the rate at which this site has grown, I'm not surprised. It's grown to almost (maybe over by now) 1600 people in less than a week. Besides, this is an issue which is easily remedied and probably will be once the admins have time to catch up. It's kind of hard to rememdy a problem when the problem lies with the people in charge and there's no real way of overthrowing them other than hunting them down and kicking their arses, which most of us don't have time to do.

Now I know as well as anyone that there is plenty of room and time to screw up; but we can help keep that from happening and keep the faith that we are getting a good set of admins and mods and just keeping going with the intelligent conversation, limited spam and maybe occasional flaming and such.

Well, agree or disagree with me, post it here and let the community know what you think about this forum so far.

Super Smash Brothers: Return

Well everybody... it's me, Joethebrave0. Depending on how you look at it, this is either my second, third, or fourth fanfiction!

*Ahem* But I digress; so let's get straight to it!

Super Smash Brothers: Return

Prologue: The Plot and the Plan

It had been long in the making, but it was finally constructed. After two previous contacts with the other parts the world and beyond, a new location had to be created for the Super Smash Brothers headquarters. Through the efforts and resources of the Mushroom Kingdom, the Paper Sector, and Flipside, the SSB-BII was created! It is a space station, large enough to hold at least two hundred personnel and over 50 smashers inside its metallic walls.

The historic Smash Mansion would still exist, but mainly as an information center, providing news and other important documents from the surface of the planet to the SSB-BII (It’s SSB-B2, just using roman numerals, it’s not a ‘Wii’ pun.)

A figure sat in a red couch next to the grand fireplace in the Mansion, as another sat in a green couch opposite. The first figure smiled, the firelight casting a sinister shadow across his face.

“It’s-a finally ready, bro, thanks for helping, yous-a did a good job,” Mario congratulated his brother, Luigi.

“Ohh, it was nuttin’, big bro!” Luigi said humbly, “Anyway, the Princess helped out a lot, too…”

“Yeah,” Mario continued, “But you’re-a my bro! You deserve somethin’ special for-a your help!” The plumber walked to the kitchen to find a slice of the cake that was left over from Peach’s birthday party.

“Whoa-hoah!” Luigi cried as his brother came in with the large section of moist lemon cake. “Mario! T-that… that isn’t the last…”

“Yup, it-a sure is! And you get to have the honors of eating it, Luigi!”

Luigi smiled tearfully, and gently collected the plate, and pulled off a small section for his brother. “Here, Mario, you should have this part,” Luigi offered.

“No, I need my gloves clean for when I launch this thing!”

“Mmph?” The younger Mario Bro asked, mouth full of cake.

“Oh, you know, the SSB-BII gets launched tonight, remember?”

“Mm…” Luigi nodded in understanding.

“In fact, I’d-a say it launches in about… ah… now!” Mario slammed his fist upon a large red button protruding from the arm of his red, cushioned chair.

“Mwha!?” Luigi sputtered, bits of the precious cake spewing out of his mouth, flecks of it splattering across his brother’s face.

Mario wiped the small chunks of dessert off of his face, turned, and said to Luigi, “Yep, the SSB-BII has just been launched from your house,” Luigi thought of the mansion that he managed to buy using the money he found in the Boo’s Illusion Mansion. It had been nicknamed the 'Smash Mansion, due it being the host of the first two Super Smash Brothers tournaments. “It’s now in orbit around our planet of Tednonin,” Mario proclaimed.

“B-but… you could’ve told me that earlier!” Luigi squealed, “Why don’t you ever tell me these things!?”

“Luigi,” Mario looked confused, “I told you earlier today.”

“When I was busy making you lotsa spaghetti!” The bro in green squeaked.

“Oh, whatever, what’s done is done,” Mario shrugged.

* * *

In the deep reaches of space, a dark presence brooded… Watching silently, this being saw the SSB-BII, lovingly dubbed the Smash Station, enter orbit around planet Tednonin. The entity rubbed its gloved hands together, despite its suspicious lack of arms.

“So it has begun,” The Ancient Minister said to his hands. “You, Right, you’re the master of this operation. Keep an eye on them, if any rules are broken… eheh… Destroy them.”

“It shall be done, Minister,” The Master Hand replied in a very proper British accent, and floated off towards the Smash Station.

“You, Left, you’re staying with me, you’re not going crazy on my watch,” the Minister chastised his hand.

“BHWAHAW! So, you think you can love me and leave me to die?! I only destroyed a few of our battlecruisers!” The Crazy Hand laughed insanely.

“Hmm… Left, I’ll keep you here for when I need you. You’re Right’s backup,” the Minster cooed to his left hand.

“Neahiiiiiiiiiii!” The Ancient Minister’s left hand screamed.

The Minister touched Crazy to the side of his head, where an ear should’ve been. “Anglar!”

A dastardly voice bubbled from the earpiece, “Yeesss… My Lord Minister?”

“Ready the Subspace Army, I may have need of them shortly. There is conflict brewing in the universe, I aspire to make good use of it. Should anyone break any of my rules, send the eighteenth division, and have Zazan head it,” the Subspace Leader chuckled.

“It… shall be done… Ready the Zazanga, oh, and my thanks for saving me and my ship from that blasted hole in Venom. Anglar out,” The Anglar Emperor cut the transmission.

“Are you sure this will work, Subspace being?” A voice asked from behind the Minister.

“You’re scheme will go as planned, space beast. Have no fear, your conquest will take place,” The Ancient Minister said quietly.

“For your sake, I hope you’re right,” the space beast threatened, and flew off.

“Heh… what a fool, leaving his troops in the hands of fate… That being should take more pride in his soldiers. But then, they’re not much to be proud of, eheh…” The Subspace Ruler thought.

“IIIIIDIIIOOOOT! AHAHAHA!” Crazy Hand howled.

“I’d smack you if I had another hand here…”

* * *

Two meteorites rent the night above the kingdom of Hyrule. Zelda was watching from here tower, a great bang, as if from thunder had split the silence.

“That’s… odd… there’s not supposed to be a meteor shower for well over eight months now,” The Hylian Princess thought. “There… By Nayru!”

One of the meteors impacted into Death Mountain, and a small portion of the lava inside spilled out, no doubt into the goron mines. Lights flicked on in Kakariko Village, and though she could not hear it, Zelda knew that the townsfolk were screaming in terror.

“The gorons up there,” she thought worriedly, “what will become of them?”

Then, suddenly, a soldier, steel sword in his right hand, burst into Princess Zelda’s tower chamber!

“Your Highness!” he gasped, “King Irunus wishes to see you, he says it’s urgent!

She glanced out the window at the cloud of smoke billowing from Death Mountain “Is it about that comet?” She asked, nervous.

“You mean that one?” the sentry asked, pointing at the cloud, “No, it’s about the smaller one.”

“Smaller one?!” Zelda was truly puzzled now.

“Yes! Come, follow me!”

Zelda tugged on the top of her dress, giving her room to move quicker, and followed the guard down the spiral staircase.

“Sir, what is your name?” Zelda asked abruptly.

The guard, taken aback, choked and almost went toppling down the stairs. “Oh, you must pardon me, princess, I wasn’t expecting that. My name is Robin, I’m in the Royal Guard.”

“Thank you, Sir Robin,” Zelda smiled.

Robin blushed, “It’s just Robin, princess,” he said as he hurried through the corridors of Hyrule Castle. “Anyway, we’re almost there, please keep up the pace!”

“I’ll try, Robin,” Zelda said as she ran to keep up with him.

As they hurried up the floors of Hyrule Castle, retainers and other guards stared as Zelda ran by.

“Hey Robin, you-!” One senior guard cried.

“Sorry! No time!” Robin replied.

“Here we are, princess,” her escort said, “here’s the throne room, but you knew that already, didn’t you!” Zelda laughed with Robin.

He sighed, “Alright, I’m off!” and the guard zipped back down.

“Goddesses, he’s fast…” Zelda laughed as she walked through the doors to the throne room.

“Ah, Zelda, you’re here!” King Irunus Stefan Hyrule greeted, “I’m glad you’re here, for I have grave news.”

“What is it, father? Does it have something to do with that meteor?” Zelda asked.

“Yes… and no,” Irunus answered cryptically. “You see, another, smaller, meteor impacted not far from us. To be precise, in the Faron Woods, near Ordona Province.”

“Ordon… Link!”

“Yes, no doubt our hero has gone to investigate this disturbance. I want you to take Sarcus and join with Link in the woods.”

Zelda looked out the window in the direction of Faron Province. “Very well, I should be there by daybreak.”

“That’s my girl…” Irunus smiled.

***On Death Mountain***

A reptilian creature slithered nastily out of the crater in Death Mountain. His scaly head swiveled from side to side as he observed his surroundings.

“Sssahhh!” Static crackled through his voice, “Kkkxxxx, come out you scum, let’s get moving! The General, geoform 187, won’t be pleased if we’re slow!”

By the way, I think it would be best if you had the actual timeline for the Nintendo Universe. Here you go! This all takes place on this Timeline of Events: (Don't worry, you'll be getting to some actual reading soon.)

Mario: After Sunshine but before Superstar Saga and Partners in Time (This series doesn't have much of timeline, does it now?)

Zelda: Very recently after Twilight Princess

Metroid: Three months after Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, thus, about 2 months before Corruption.

Star Fox: After Command, you'll see which ending I chose.

WarioWare: After Twisted! (Which comes after Touched!)

Ice Climber: Do I need to say anything here? The only got one game...

Kirby: After Super Star

Kid Icarus: After... Kid Icarus...

F-Zero: I can't help too much here... I've only played the original, and didn't get too far either.

Game & Watch: See Ice Climber

Earthbound/Mother: Never played one. Ever. Period.

Yoshi: After his most chronologically recent game, Super Mario World, if I'm not mistaken.

Donkey Kong: See F-Zero, save for the fact that I actually beat this one.

Fire Emblem: For the land of Altea: it's in Japanese, no help here. For Roy and Eliwood in Pherae, sometime after Roy's Japanese-only game. In the better-known land of Tellius, two years after Path of Radiance, so about one year before Radiant Dawn.

Sonic the Hedgehog: See F-Zero

Pokemon: After the 'Pokemon Trainer' has beaten the Sinnoh League.

There is one minor inconsistancy involving Roy and his adventures. There is one of Eliwood's companions that died in Roy's adventure, but who is alive in the story... I suggest that you pay it no mind, it'll just lessen the experience.

Oh, one more thing, Tednonin is the planet that most Nintendo games take place on! For instance, The Mushroom Kingdom, Hyrule, DK Island, Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Eagleland, and most other things. Barring Metroid, Star Fox, and the obvious ‘otherworldly adventures’ However, F-Zero takes place on earth, far in the future. And since Earth is/was the homeworld of the Galactic Federation, Samus has seen Captain Falcon before. This is despite her homeworld being the space colony K2-L. Ah, yes, and in addition, (in my opinion and fanfic at least), all the Fire Emblems, save the sequels, such as The Sealed Sword, (Roy’s adventure) take place alongside each other, just on different continents.

Do you notice something about the word Tednonin?

This was created on the original NSider when my friend Ohmygasha! and I conceived the idea of a joint fanfic. However, life matters took over and Ohmi unfortunately left the project but leaving me with the reins. Soon after, Nsider was closed forever and I moved to fanfiction.net. Then, I found NSider2. Thus, I will repost all that we have created so far here and then continuing the rest myself.

There will be a large cast of main characters (akin to Heroes) who fight for their people when a new King of Hyrule rises to the throne in a suspicious manner and declares war on the other races of the land for apparently no reason. Something even darker is behind this, when our heroes learn that even our beloved hero is in on this...

Ohmi, this is for you!

EDIT: The idea for the Japanese translations in throughout this thread (if you can read it) was inspired by POKEMON_DUDE3.

~Chapter 1 is on the next post~

TABLE OF CONTENTS
Chapter 1~The Gift of Din
Chapter 2~The Gift of Farore
Chapter 3~The Call Enters the Forest
Chapter 4~The Gift of Nayru
Chapter 5~Until Death
Chapter 6~Prejudice and Prophecy
Chapter 7~Visions
Chapter 8~Survival in the Dark
Chapter 9~Crime and Punishment
Chapter 10~New Hopes
Chapter 11~Mysteries, Past and Present
Chapter 12~The Power of Fire
Chapter 13~The Hammer of Light
Chapter 14~False Betrayals

The Fused Shadow

Hi, everyone! This is the return of the Fused Shadow! It is starting fresh and anew! I had at least 40 chapters by the end of the first thread, but I've decided to restart for new readers.

The awards this fic has received are Second Place in NS1's LoZFotW, First Place in the FotW, and Honorable Mention in the FotW.

Now that the introduction is done, here is the background of the story. The story is based off of the Fused Shadow from the Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, and its origins according to me. It also deals with other situations that have been mysterious in origin with the LoZ series. In chronology, it takes place about 50 to 100 years before Ocarina of Time.

Here are two of the official signatures for this fiction! Take one if you like!

<img Three goddesses in the beginning went forth to create a land for their chosen people. Din carved the earth from shadow and brought form to it. Nayru cultivated the land and gave it life. Farore set forth the law, and brought order from chaos. After they had finished, they left this world, leaving behind the essence of their power, the Triforce.

It is said that the goddesses chose the bloodline of the Hero and the bloodline of the Royal Family to seal the Triforce within. Only by the rite of their bloodshed can the Triforce be found. Knowing this, an ambitious sorcerer took captive the Princess of Hyrule. He attempted to take the power of the goddesses by the shedding of her blood. Using the Blessed Sword, the Hero arose to destroy the sorcerer. In honor of the weapon the Hero used, the people of Hyrule built a Temple to keep safe the blade for the Hero or the future...

Squinting his eyes, Link could see nothing but darkness. Slowly, the scenery of a chapel appeared into existence. Link looked around, bewildered at where he was. There was a towering stained-glass window with a design depicting the images of the three goddesses cradling the Triforce. The Triforce's light shone in the darkness below it. The light revealed the Hero's Sword, the Master Sword. Looking around, it seemed as if Link was inside a temple. The very center of the clearing held a pedestal with a silver blade stuck in it. A set of steps led to the sword. Link began walking slowly to the center of the room. He stopped in front of the pedestal. He noticed the symbol of the Triforce engraved on the blade. Link grabbed the handle and pulled it from its place, almost instantly. When he looked at his reflection on the blade, he saw a darkened image of himself. It appeared that he was wearing a green cap and hat that he had never seen before.

Suddenly, Link heard the sound of footsteps. He turned to see three shadow figures approaching him. All of them had horns of a beast, and wide, all-seeing, eyes. The one on the right raised its hand and shot a black ball of energy from its hand. Link dodged to the side. The ball dissipated on the wall. The figure in the middle quickly approached Link and used its mighty claws to slash Link. Link blocked the blow with his sword and deflected its claws, then slashed the creature. It stumbled away from Link, holding its wound. Just then, one of the others appeared behind Link and hit him with a force that sent Link flying to the other end of the room. Link lost his sword where he was hit. The figure who hit Link picked up the sword. It suddenly dropped it clutching its hand. Link felt himself lift from the floor and then he was thrown in place above the pedestal. The sword lifted in the air also and pointed at Link. The sword zoomed at Link, piercing his heart. A light flashed, and then, all was dark.

You may still reply for opinions on the topic. I have pm'd all the judges and as soon as we can come to a decision the winner will be announced.
Sorry for not updating it earlier ~ I was out of town.

Welcome to the one-week only Power On PotW (post of the week) contest!!

In case you havn't already figured it out from the title, the prize for the winner of this contest will win 4 heart pieces. Heart pieces were items that you used to be able to get out of Gasha Nuts at a very small chance. It said if you collect 4 to give them to an admin. We now know that when you send them to an admin you get a special rank called King of Hearts and an icon by you're name of a Heart Piece. The first person to get this rank was TayTay19. If you win the contest all you have to do is transfer your 4 heart pieces to Hyrulian_Royalty and he will make your rank King of Hearts. All the sages and I bonded together to collect all of the Heart Pieces after I came up with the idea so you can thank me and the rest of the Sages, there were even some mods that helped along the way too. Well that pretty much explains the prize...now going on to more about the contest.

This will be a one-time only PotW contest. The contest will (obviously) last one week. During this week you need to make good quality thread. Only threads that have been posted during the week of the contest may be used in the contest. Please only enter threads in the contest that have been posted in the Power On board. For the purpose of this contest I will allow more than one post per person to be admitted in the contest, I will maximize the amount of posts you can submit at 5.

If you want to know some things the judges look for in the thread here's the thing to aim for:

Correct spelling

Good grammar

Fairly nice reading posts, more than a couple sentences

Uses colors and other codes at the users disposal (bold, coloring text, etc.)

Please keep in mind we do not care if something is a negative or a positive opinion, it's just the quality of the post.

Here's the format I would like threads to be submitted in:

Thread Title Here
Basic topic of thread here
Direct Link to thread, a.k.a. The http link linkified

I'm currently gathering more judges, only Sages, KoH, and Admins can be judges. Please don't pm me unless you are one of those listed.

The thread judges will be:
Nintendo_G
NS2_MYSTERIOUS
Smartgurl
Nweb
YoshiSlime

I guess that's all you need to know, happy posting .

"Adventure Pointers" Series (st. the Mario Gals!)

ATTENTION ALL READERS - Poll #5 covering entries #41 - #50 is now CLOSED -- results will be tallied up soon.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

(It's like the ABC Kidtime's "Posse Philosophy" segments from the early 1990s, but with the Peach/Daisy/Toadette/Birdo twist!)

Fanfiction series and related images done by Merit Celaire; entries done with a little help from the four Mario gals!

NEW ENTRY UP (9/4/2008): Conceited...? Uh, We Don't Think So (Entry #61)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Basically, this fanfiction series is starring the four Mario gals (Princess Peach, Princess Daisy, Toadette, and Birdo) and targeted toward those who are enthusiasts of them. For more info about the series itself, check this FAQ below:

Question #1: So, what is this thread all about?
For those of you who grew up in the late 80s/early 90s, remember the "ABC Kidtime" Saturday morning series? Well during the commercial breaks, this group called the "AM Posse Kids" did short segments called the "Posse Philosophy" -- where they share their own insights, hoping to get general points across to everyone. Some had a funny twist to them as well. I liked how this was done, and was inspired by that to do these entries featuring the Mario game series' leading females!

Question #2: So how will this work?
For this "Adventure Pointers" thread, and the related posts I make here will be this - some may feature all four, some may be solo involvement, some may involve two -- heck, some might even involve three! It all depends on what the "story/pointer" will be about. And like the ABC Kidtime "Posse Philosophy" segments, some may even have some crazy twists while still getting a point across.

Question #3: Any plans for guest stars?
Actually, yes; depends on the "pointer" I write during that time. There are some friends of Peach, Daisy, Toadette, and Birdo that should be involved from time to time; stay tuned on that one. But so far, obviously, they're all in relation to the Mario game series.

Question #4: What about reader ideas for additional entries in this series, M. C.?
More on that later; right now I just need to put the starting entries on paper before I accept new ideas to keep this thread positive with great posts.

Question #5: Okay, and how about the layout you'll present it as?
Script layout! Besides, although I'm writing this, it's best to put this in the perspective of the four main stars here. It's more fun that way.

More questions and info may be added as the months forge ahead. But for now -- enough of the boring explanations -- on to some fun!

Andy said in his sleep.

His alarm clock was ringing as it always did at 7:30 A.M. Usually he would be right up getting dressed as soon as his clock began to ring, but this time he didn't get up right away. He had been up late playing with some metal trophies of his favorite Nintendo characters.

"Andy, time to get up; I'll make you breakfast," Andy's mother shouted.

He yawned and replied, "I'll be down in a sec."

"Oh honestly Andy, clean up those toys on your desk; You shouldn't be playing with those little kids toys. You are turning eleven in a month."

"They are not little kid’s toys, they're collectible Nintendo trophies."

"It doesn't matter what they are, put them away and get dressed".

"Yes mom".

Andy got dressed, brushed his teeth, and headed downstairs to the kitchen where he would have breakfast. At his spot at the table was a pile of pancakes, orange juice, and toast. Andy's dad and his little brother John were sitting at the table eating the same meal.

"Sit down Andy. Your food is getting cold," said his dad.

He came over and sat down.

After breakfast, Andy went to the water park for half the day. When he got home, He wanted to go to the park, but it started to rain.

"Oh man, rain," Andy complained.

"Oh well," said his dad, “I’m sure you'll think of something to do."

"I don't want you playing your video games all day Andy," lectured his mom.

"I won't mom, I never do".

Andy's mom never approved of video games, but 3 Christmases ago, his grandma got him a gamecube with Super Smash Brothers Melee Collectors edition. That was the first video game he ever played. 25 metal action figures or "trophies" were included with the collector’s edition. There was a trophy of Mario, Link, Pickachu, Kirby and all the characters that could be played in the game.

At the end of the day, Andy went to his room and started to put his trophies away. When he grabbed his Mario trophy, It started to glow. He dropped the trophy and nearly fell off the chair he was sitting in. Then, his Mario trophy winked at him. He thought,
"I must need some sleep."
So Andy went to bed, but during the night while he was sleeping, his other trophies began to glow.
This is my first fanfic so it might not be the greatest.
Professor Layton and the Curious Village Review

A glass jar holds a single germ. After one minute, the germ splits into two germs. One minute after that, the two germs each split again, forming a total of four germs. Continuing at this rate, a single germ can multiply to fill the whole jar in exactly one hour. Knowing this, how long in minutes would it take to fill the jar if you had started with two germs?

1. Platform: Nintendo DS
2. Publisher: Nintendo
3. Developer: Level-5
4. ESRB Rating: E for Everyone
5. Release Date(US): February 10th, 2008

Did you find that problem difficult? It’s quite simple when you think about it. It takes one minute for a single germ to split into two. Therefore, starting with two germs instead of one only saves you one minute and thus the answer is be 59.

The puzzle above is just one of the many puzzles you’ll encounter in Professor Layton in the Curious Village™. If you found that puzzle simple, don’t think that the game contains a bunch of simple puzzles because it doesn’t. Professor Layton contains a wide variety of puzzles and as you progress through the game, the puzzles get a lot harder. Thankfully, you can use hint coins to make the puzzle a little easier. Hint coins are scattered throughout the game. Using them when your stumped with a puzzle will give you a hint. Sometimes the hints aren’t all that helpful but most of time, they will are extremely beneficial.

Professor Layton and his apprentice, Luke.

In the small and creepy village of St. Mystere, bizarre things have been occurring. The richest man in St. Mystere, Baron Augustus, has peacefully passed away leaving his fortune in the hands of “The Golden Apple”. Whomever finds "The Golden Apple” gets a piece of the fortune but unfortunately, nobody knows whereabouts of the elusive item.

Thankfully, Professor Layton and his apprentice, Luke, are on the case. You’ll scour St. Mystere looking for clues to aid you in finding “The Golden Apple”. You’ll need to solve a variety of puzzles and talk to the bizarre townsfolk to gather information on the whereabouts of “The Golden Apple”.

Throughout the course of the game, strange things start to occur. Somebody gets murdered and it’s up to you to find the murderer. You’re a potential suspect in the murder case so now you have to prove that somebody else killed this person. Then, if that wasn’t enough, people have started disappearing in St. Mystere. It seems quite apparent that somebody is causing conflicts in St. Mystere but who could it be? It’s up to Professor Layton and Luke to find out who before something even more tragic happens.

Professor Layton and the Curious Village™ uses only the stylus. Simply tapping the touch screen will let you navigate St. Mystere and allow you to solve puzzles. You can also tap objects that seem bizarre and sometimes, you’ll find a hint coin. Some other times, you’ll discover a hidden puzzle.

Is this puzzle too hard for you?

The best part about Professor Layton is undoubtedly the spectacular puzzles the game has to offer. Though some puzzles will have you scratching your head for awhile, the majority of the puzzles will just need you to read the question carefully. For example, one of the puzzles talks about how a certain type of mouse can produce 10 babies each month. Newborn mice can have babies have babies after two months. So, the puzzle asks how many babies will a mouse you bought at the pet store have in ten months. The thing is, the answer is 1! The mouse can’t become pregnant by itself so it can’t go through sexual reproduction. If mice could go through asexual reproduction, then the answer wouldn’t be 1.

In order to progress through the game, you’ll be required to solve specific puzzles. Some of the puzzles in the game are optional but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try them. In my opinion, the optional puzzles in the game are a lot better than those in the main storyline.

If you think that Professor Layton is just a collection of puzzles, think again. The game has a lot of plot but the game doesn’t get too complicated. Professor Layton also allows you to collect a variety of objects but it isn’t really mandatory to collect these items. For example, pieces of a painting are scattered across St. Mystere and if you find all the pieces and reassemble the painting to it’s former glory, something good will happen.

This puzzle may seem hard but it’s actually quite simple when you think about it!

Some people may complain about the game’s hand-drawn backgrounds, but personally, I adore them. The graphics suit the game exceptionally well and the animated sequences that occasionally appear throughout the main storyline are breathtaking. The animated sequences are voice acted as well! Unquestionably, Professor Layton’s graphics are some of the best on Nintendo DS.

Another thing that makes Professor Layton stand out from other puzzle games is it’s awesome music. The music has a French flavor to it and it sounds so good while playing the game. If you’re looking for some exquisite music, look no further.

In Conclusion...

Professor Layton and the Curious Village™ is unquestionably one of the best Nintendo DS games thus far. If you enjoyed games such as Brain Age or Phoenix Wright, I can guarantee that you’ll be satisfied with Professor Layton! By the way, if you already own this game and enjoy it, you’ll want to look out for the sequel to Professor Layton and the Curious Village™!

Scores

1.Presentation: 9/10
There are over 100 puzzles to be solved and there are lots of things to be collected.
2.Graphics: 9/10
Hand-drawn graphics gives Professor Layton and the Curious Village™ it’s own unique feel.
3.Story: 9/10
A lot of unexpected events occur but some things that happen can easily be predicted.
4.Sound: 9/10
Very catchy music that has a French flavor.
5.Gameplay: 9/10
Professor Layton and the Curious Village™ uses only the touch screen and it makes good use of it.
6.Replay Value: 6.5/10
Puzzles have limited replay value but you can connect to Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection to download more puzzles.

Overall Score: 9.2/10

Getting Nsider On The Official Nintendo Power Magazine

TSFRJ sent us a very interesting pm on how we can get NSider2 on the official Nintendo Power magazine, read on.

QUOTE

In pulse section of NP v223 someone wrote in about Most Wanted and NP survey sections missing from magazine since futureus took over. They responded that those sections relieded on Nsider forums. They would like to help put some forums back out there for fans. Letter and response are found on page 12 in the first column second paragraph. If you contact futureus in how Nsider2 can best support these sections you might be able to convince them to use Nsider2 as an official replacement. Also while i call Nintendo customer hotline about some stuff, the rep asked me where most Nsider members could be found now. He said they've gotten lots of call about how members could find old friends. You'll be happy to know i Explained Nsider2 him. He said it was nice to have a place to send Nsider's to when they called. ....Nsider2 could become an official replacement. But try getting through to futureus and get them to use Nsider2 to included most wanted & NP surveys sections in NP magazine again.

According to this idea, if we get enough people to write to Future US's Nintendo Magazine, then we could potentially have NSider2 on the official magazine's Most Wanted and NP Survey sections.

It would only take you about 10 minutes of your busy schedule to type up a quick letter, print it, sign it and put it in an envelop with a stamp.

This could be something really big for our community, I encourage every single one of you to give us 10 minutes of your time and help us get the word out to Future US.

Nintendo Power
Customer Care
PO Box 5770
Harlan, IA 51593

You can also sent an email out to them at the following email address (remember your letters will make a greater impact)

Email: nintendopower@futureus.com

If you are desperately busy you could at least give them a call at Toll-free: 1-866-941-8368 and ask to speak to a higher official and tell them that you want them to use NSider2 as the official source for the magazine's Most Wanted and NP Survey sections.

The Fan Fiction Review Thread

Welcome to the Review Thread! This is actually a revived version of the thread known as "the Fan Fiction Workshop". Like its predecessor, the goal of the Review Thread is to review the fan fiction that anyone submits and to give thorough and honest opinions about the fiction that give both the readers and the writer an idea about how good the fiction is and what it can improve on.

We will need your support rather you would be a staff member or one that submits. Donations for banners, signatures, add-ons, or advice on how we can be better at our jobs would also be appreciated.

Rules of Posting

1. No spam or any talk that is unrelated to the Review Thread.

2. No flaming anyone, including the thread and its staff members. If you have a problem, post it in a calm and respectful manner.

3. No advertising.

4. ABSOLUTELY NO POST COMPRISED OF PIECES FROM YOUR FICTION!

Submitting

There a five categories in which a fan fiction may be reviewed:

1. Plot: The structure of a story.

2. Characters: The people who move the story along, or the people whom the story revolves around.

3. Description: The words that inspire the reader's imagination.

4. Grammar/Spelling: The fundamentals of writing.

5. Presentation: The layout of the fiction and the thread it resides in.

When submitting for review, the minimum number of areas to be reviewed is two; obviously, the maximum is five.

The way an application is to be posted is as follows:

Username: Name here.
Fan Fiction Title: Fan Fiction Title here.
URL to Thread: URL here.
Areas to be Reviewed: Areas to be Reviewed here.

It will be ignored if it is not like this.
Once submitted, you should recieve confirmation of the fiction's acceptance either by PM or by post.

The Review Thread reserves the right to deny a fiction's review for the following reasons:

1. You have submitted the same fiction for review more than once in a period of thirty days.

2. The fiction submitted is completely incompetent. Be sure to give your fiction the good ol' college try before submitting.

3. The fiction does not have at least three chapters with more than five paragraphs that are a good size (you can make good judgment on that, can't you?).

4. The fiction is a short-story.

5. The fiction is a poem.

6. The fiction is a script.

7. Your fiction does not have a thread.

The staff will do their best to review your fiction with deftness, as long as you do your part. Please respect the reviews they give and go give a thank you to a reviewer when he is done.

Applying for a Postion

There are two ways that you may become a reviewer here:

1. You meet all the standards of the application process.

2. I hand-pick you, either by suggestion from another, or by my noticing your skills and participation in the community.

If you apply, these are the criteria that you must meet:

1.Tell me why you would be qualified for the job. I may get a second opinion from another about you.

2. Write a short-story about a topic chosen by me. The topic will change weekly and will be posted so that it may be seen for planning. The short-story must be exceptionally competent in all five categories. Due to the nature of the short-story, the category for characters will be judged less harshly than the other areas. It cannot be less than 500 words.

The first criterium is to be PMed to me. The second criterium is to be posted here on the board. You must formally apply by posting on the board also. I will have a list of applicants who are going through the process of selection.

You'll be given a week to complete your story. All of the staff will make their decision on whether you are capable or not for the job.

If accepted, you must be willing to spare much of your time to your job details. If you fail to make the job, you must wait for two weeks before appealing for the position, providing that there are still open spots.

What is expected of Staff Memebers

All members of the Staff are expected to be available at anytime for a job. A job will usually come to a member by PM from me, specifying who the submitter is, what the name of his fan fiction is, and what page of the Review Thread his submission can be found on. Members are expected to reply to me upon receiving job details as to whether they can accept the job or not.

All Staff members are given a two-week period to review fictions and post their review. If it must take longer, PM me about it. You may not be late for more than a ratio of 2 out of 5 deadlines at a time. More than that will likely result in your dismissal from the staff. All members are also expected to give consistently insightful reviews for submitted fictions. I will rate your performance based on how I think you did. There may even be rewards for good reviews...

The format for posting reviews is the following:

Hello, I'm Name Here from the Fan Fiction Review Thread. (You can say whatever you want after this introductory sentence.)

Plot:

Characters:

Description:

Spelling/Grammar:

Presentation:

Final Verdict: (Put your final synopsis of the fiction and reinforce important points made throughout the review in this section.)

(Rating is optional. Conclude the review here at the end.)

Once a review is complete and posted in the submitter's thread, PM me or post in the thread, informing me that it is complete, so that I can put it up.

Dismissal from the Staff

There are a number of reasons a Staff member may be dismissed from the Staff. The following are the most common reasons.

1. You become dangerously late with a review. Dangerously late is defined as falling behind by at least two weeks.
2. You pass the accepted late ratio as displayed on each member's mini-profile in the second post.
3. Your review quality is far below average, especially in succession.
4. You seriously offend Nsider2 rules.

If a member is dismissed for reason number 1 or 2, he will have the opportunity to give reason why he is late before a final decision is made. He will receive a PM from me requesting why he has been late. From then, he will have a week's time to reply. If a reply is not sent within the week, he will be permanently dismissed.

Once dismissed, you have the opportunity of returning to the staff by completing the application process and then you will be required to do a trial review before a decision to reinstate you is made. You CANNOT return to the staff if you have been dismissed for reason number 4!
Potluck

Hello everyone,

When I first wrote this fic, the first post was only full of witty quotes. However times have changed and I feel I should say something. This fanfic is about an old world that doesn't exist anymore. It stars people that don't exist anymore. It's an ideal that's long gone and dead. If you're new, I don't expect you to understand this fic, and if you are from old nsider, I don't expect you to undertstand it either.

This fic is prety much a fossil.

So what kind of fic is you may ask? From the crude banner one would guess it was a Wario fic. I'll let you be the judge.

This is one of the most unconventional fics you may ever read, as it follows no formula or guidelines. I am just reposting this tale because I feel it deserves to be told once again whether anyone understands it or not.

This fic was once lost and now it's found.
