ZoraPrime-"When I read the fanfiction, I want to see something unique. I don't wan to see a copy and paste of another game or person's work. I don't want to see any basic convention errors such as common misspellings or basic grammar rules. I want something that can grab the reader and glue them to that page until they finished the last chapter. To these and you may get my vote."



BeastMasterToad-"How original is it? If the fic is a direct sequel then I will critisize it all the more, especially if it's a Twilight Princess sequel (I'm growing sick of those). How interesting are the characters? I don't like generic characters nor do I like over-baked characters. The characters must also be realistic and true to human nature for the most part (if they are human). How well-planned is the plot? I will have a very hard time reading a story if the plot is easily discernable, unoriginal, or if it has the "Prison Break Syndrome" (the Prison Break Syndrome is how I identify plots that have so many twists that it ends up becoming over-the-top, or ironically predictable). How faithful is the fic to the world it takes place in? If the story deviates greatly from the familiarity of the series it pertains to, then it should be able to show the readers why. How well-done is the description? If I can picture it as if I'm there, then it's good. If I get lost part-way through, then it needs work. How many grammar/spelling mistakes are there? If it becomes unreadable, then I won't bother reading any farther. How does the presentation of the fic and the fics layout look? If it is appealing to read and if the thread is easily navigable when trying to traverse through it, then it is good."



POKEMON_DUDE3-"In fan fictions, I'm looking for good basic grammar/spelling, good paragraph spacing, and good writing skills. Above all, an interesting and unique plot. Something original that I haven't seen anyone come up with yet, but staying within the NSider2 rules at the same time. And that it follows the basic laws of physics unless mentioned in the fan fiction."



Elite Lord Sigma-"Interest is what a story needs most. If a story lacks that, what reason does one have to read it? Also, use of correct English (unless intentionally done otherwise) is important. It would be a shame if you wrote a great read, but I couldn't read it due to how illegible it was. Other aspects that I take into high consideration are plot and character development, proper tone (in short, write so that you would expect your target audience to understand it easily), and format - I dislike reading giant clumps of text without paragraph breaks at correct times. I don't care if your story is the most cliched work of literature on the face of the planet as long as it fits the above criteria."'



Psychopickle-"You need dedication. If I don't see dedication--a strong, enthusiastic desire to write and do it well, and the sheer willpower to plow through any obsticles--then you might as well quit writing. At least, that's my hyper-extremist view. Prove to me that you want to write, and the rest will take care of itself."



Black Zawisza- "If you expect me to vote for your fanfic, there are a few things I expect to see in your writing.

#1. Conventions

I don't expect them to be perfect, but you will have to show you put some thought into it. I'm tolerant with homonyms, possesion and few other things, but anything else is fair game for my criticism.

#2. Character Development and Interaction

Don't make a narcistic, skeptical, unlikable character and make him remain that way throughout the entire fic. I'm okay with it if a character is much the same as he was at the beginning, but show some variation. If you can do this effectively, you will get big points from me.

Also, make your characters stay in character. Don't make the individual described above try and make a joke if it's not in his nature to do so.

#3 Plot Development

Why did Country A attack Country B when all Country B did was kidnap the daughter of a peasant? Try to make your plot realistic.

#4 Originality

I hate clichés. DESPISE them. Don't you dare write:

Character A: No...I am your father.
Character B: Nooooooooooooo!

If you can make a good clichéd fanfic, however, I won't hold it against you."

Basically, the two main things that I look for in a fanfic are a good story (obviously), and correct grammar. If it has a good balance of simple and complex sentences I can usually fall into a nice rhythm. I suppose it goes without saying that if a story doesn’t have good grammar, it will fall apart, but I would pride myself on being able to easily spot such mistakes. While I admit that I haven’t been able to iron out all the grammatical mishaps in my own fanfiction, that could easily be solved by one last going-over.

The basics are always an easy thing to look for, i.e., words that are spelled correctly, a coherent plot, ‘colorful’ characters, etc. Er… yeah. I may not be as critical as my friend Black Zawisza, I feel I have just as good, if not better, grasp on the workings of a fanfiction.

Among all the things to look for in a Fan Fiction, the spots I tend to feel strongly about are Originality, Grammar, and Characters. If your fan fiction treads on enough old ground to make me feel as though I'm playing the game your fictions based on before, then I won't consider it unless on rare occasion. Example, if you have some mute hero saving some vulnerable princess after collecting 7 people or items, then I will immediately throw it away, because the idea is dead, and of course if it's dead then you can't revive it unless you're Nintendo, as they're bloody good at it. Next up, Grammar. If you've ever noticed me on the Power On board, you will know that I am a Grammar Nazi. It irritates and gives me a very bad image of you as a writer when you're not spacing after your punctuation marks or capitalizing the first letter of a sentence. I understand spelling errors and forgive for that though. So seriously, figure out the rules of grammar and run your chapters through Microsoft Word and you'll be fine. Finally, nothing angers me more than poorly written characters. Characters which are the protein of the fish in terms of fictions, should be well made. I cannot stand reading fan fictions where the main character is so generic I feel that he or she would get along perfectly with everyone. That's not natural and neither is any character that follows that. Characters must have conflict and disagreements, it's what makes things human/pokemon/whatever species you're using. I should be able to get a feeling about where the character would belong in our world. That, and try to keep differences between characters, two equally identical characters kind of make it hard to keep track of their comments, although I'm not as stringent on this as I've made the mistake myself before. All in all, I'm pretty generous. Keeping off bad grammar and cliches aren't all that hard if you know what you're doing. Otherwise, prepare yourself for an unexpected bill.

In pulse section of NP v223 someone wrote in about Most Wanted and NP survey sections missing from magazine since futureus took over. They responded that those sections relieded on Nsider forums. They would like to help put some forums back out there for fans. Letter and response are found on page 12 in the first column second paragraph. If you contact futureus in how Nsider2 can best support these sections you might be able to convince them to use Nsider2 as an official replacement. Also while i call Nintendo customer hotline about some stuff, the rep asked me where most Nsider members could be found now. He said they've gotten lots of call about how members could find old friends. You'll be happy to know i Explained Nsider2 him. He said it was nice to have a place to send Nsider's to when they called. ....Nsider2 could become an official replacement. But try getting through to futureus and get them to use Nsider2 to included most wanted & NP surveys sections in NP magazine again.
