IGN: Under $100 for another peripheral is still a chunk of cash to shell out. Do you have anything in line that will make further use of the Wii Balance Board?

Reggie Fils-Aime: I think what you’re speaking to is, from a consumer perspective, help me feel good about this purchase. There are over 10 games in development that take advantage of the Balance Board. Certainly in terms of ongoing enjoyment, we believe that Wii Fit plus the Balance Board will provide that to the consumer.

This morning the Nsider2 staff (at Japan) (that’s it, me) got WiiFit. Seems like they made it so the body training starts once you buy the game, since the case itself is kind of heavy…

Here you can see the difference between the case itself (dvd size of course) and the balance board.

So, when you first start the game you have to check your weight and balance. With that data it tells you your BMI (I’m at 18.3) and after that you get a balance test that keeps getting harder, until the point where just an small movement will make you get out of the ‘balance’ area.

After that, you can start playing games. First at all you have around 15 minigames and you keep unlocking games by playing other.

The game introduces you a little machine that keeps counting how many minutes you have played each minigame. The more minutes, the better, and the faster you unlock other games.

(The box itself)

Also, I would like to say that the muscle trainings are pretty good. I did a push-up training wich envolves balance too, and I ended up sweating a little bit, though I got a ‘bodybuilder’ level.

All the data goes to the calendar, where you can even place stamps (you get new ones while playing) to know wich days you’ve played and all that.

Well, this is all I can tell by now, as I have not played for too long. Post questions on the comments area and I will answer them in an update later.

EDIT: First questions (via IGN Boards) answered after the break.

Can you hook up 4 remotes along with the board?

Not on WiiFit. But you actually don’t need to do so, either..

Is it fun, are there any parts that would attract someone looking for a traditional gaming experience?

There are some games like the snowboard ones that are pretty cool. You have rankings and you can keep the training everyday and improve your balance. You can see that as a game.

Does the game come in a case or a sleeve?

Case

Is it a grippy rubber surface, or cheap plastic? Does it feel like it will last a long time? It’s wireless, right? (seems almost dumb to ask, but you never know until you ask, right?)

It’s grippy plastic surface! It doesn’t look cheap at all and feels like it will last pretty long time. It’s wireless, yep (it works with it’s own batteries).

How effective a fitness tool can you imagine this becoming for most people out there? Compare it to fitness equipment they sell on infomercials at 2AM, for example.

Given the price difference and the fact that the game keeps a few stats for you, I think this is better. But that’s just my opinion…

Why do you hate games? Anyway, how does the balance board feel? Is it sensitive and such?

The balance feels very solid and even a little balance that maybe a person wouldn’t barely notice, the balance board feels it. So yes, pretty sensitive.

How easily can you eat cheetos while playing?

You don’t use your hands for most of the time (except on the menus) so I think it’s viable. But it wouldn’t make sense to eat cheetos while playing wiifit!

Can you send records to Wii freinds?

Nope

Can you take in-game pictures? (alot of recent gamed so–so I might aswell ask )

Nope, but.. from WHAT would you want to take pictures?..

What is the Wii Fit Channel like? What kind of highscores does it keep? How many blocks does it take? And is this where you look at the calendar and stamp dates?

The WiiFit Channel works as a reemplacement for the game itself, but it only works for having your stats saved and checking your daily balance and weight. That’s it. It takes 94 blocks.

I just wanted to announce to all you that there will be a live streaming for WiiFit in about 72 hours from now. That’s it, at 23:30 (GMT+9) Friday. It might not last for very long, as I won’t be alone at home that day, and my girlfriend might want to try the game too (and she will surely refuse to let everybody on internet know her weight.. if she doesn’t even let me know it!).

Anyway, expect some live streaming like today’s Everybody’s Nintendo Channel Live Streaming.
If you can’t check it out that day, don’t worry. There will be more streamings and some first impressions.

Thanks again for visiting Nsider2!.

Those kids probably need to purchase the latest game hitting the shelves.. Or at least, the game’s boxes, as the game itself will be on sale in four days. Also, now you can get a better idea of the Balance Board itself, as it’s about the same size as the box.
